Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Hamlin’s Newsletter February 4-8 Important Dates  Monday, February 4- PTO meeting 6:00 in the library Thursday, February 7- Progress Reports  Friday, February 8- PTO Father/Daughter Dance- 6:00 Thursday, February 14- Valentine’s Party-12:30 Tuesday, February 19- Boosterthon Kickoff Friday, February 22- Benefit on the Bay- PTO Adult Fundraiser & PTO Food Sales February 25-March 1- Dr. Seuss Week Monday, March 4- Boosterthon Fun Run! Important News Our Valentine’s Party is on Wednesday, February 14. Your child is welcome to bring and exchange Valentines, as long as there is one for every child. I will send home a class list this week. Also, please make a box/bag at home for them to collect cards and candy  Math This week, we will wrap up our fractions unit. Our test is Friday and students will be tested on adding and subtracting fractions, comparing fractions, converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and decomposing fractions. Language Arts We will continue Number the Stars. We will read chapters 5-8 this week, focusing on the skill of summarization. Please ensure that the students are completing their discussion guides and graphic organizers for our novel as we read the chapters. I will do random reading journal checks for all of these things. If they do not finish in class, it is their responsibility to finish at home. In writing, we complete and present our partner chapter books that the students have been creating. ACHIEVE: I am only requiring one article per week(the one I assign) until we finish our novel. This will allow time at home for the students to ensure that they are completing everything related to Number the Stars.
