4 Challenge question: What might trigger these changes?
Sex hormones are released by the brain, ovaries and testes. They cause both physical and emotional changes to both males and females. The time when these changes take place is known as adolescence. 5 Key definitions: Sex hormones: Natural chemicals released in the body that control the menstrual cycle and puberty. Adolescence: A time where physical and emotional changes occur in teenagers. Menstruation: When the lining of the uterus and a little blood pass out of the vagina as part of the menstrual cycle.
