1 Experimental Areas – LS2 planning
Erwan Harrouch, EN-EA

2 Summary General LS2 planning in Exp. Areas
Cooling needs in experimental areas Link to EA LS2 Planning (Access given upon request at the moment)

3 PS Complex PS&TT2

4 SPS Complex Experimental areas

5 Cooling needs in Exp. Areas during LS2
PS Complex : East Area : Demineralized water : Stop on the 03/12/2018 – Back on the 07/08/2020 (For F61 Hardware tests) CLOUD : Which water circuits are needed during 2019 RUN? Ntof : Demineralized water stop ok for the whole LS2 (From the 28/11/2018 – to the 18/12/2020) Cooling of the target to be kept? AD : Demineralized water stops : 2019 : 20/12/2018 – 06/02/2019 2020 : 19/12/2019 – 05/02/2020 2021 : 17/12/2020 – 03/02/2021

6 Cooling needs in Exp. Areas during LS2
SPS Complex North Area : BA80/81/82 : Demineralized water stopped from the 19/12/2018 to the 11/01/2021 (Magnet patrol to be done before the 19/12/2018 except in TDC2/TCC2, 1-2 day of demineralized water on in June 2019 for magnet patrol in TDC2/TCC2, EHN2 : Chilled water needed until the 7/12/2018 and then needed from the 14/12/2020. AWAKE : Needs all the CV services during LS2. Maintenance periods are being discussed between Ans. Pardons and EN-CV

9 Booster Experimental Areas

10 PS Experimental Areas

11 East Area East Area Renovation Project Dismantling activities Installation activities Resource availability is the constraint for having physics back in the East Area

12 Ntof EAR2 Main works : EAR1 EAR2 EAR1
Target replacement Target shielding replacement with a mobile one EAR1 Sweeping magnet replacement New collimator installation EAR2 Removal EAR2 beamline for Target exchange EAR1 Target Beam from PS Planning in production (Aymeric Bouvard EAR1 / Sylvain Girod EAR2) 1st version available upon request PS Restart is the constraint for having physics back in Ntof

13 AD Main works : Refurbishment of AD ring magnets : Jan 2019 – Nov. 2020 ELENA transfer line reinstallation : Nov – Mar. 2021 AEGIS Relocation (To be confirmed) Vacuum, RF consolidation, … Planning in production (Aymeric Bouvard / Francois Butin) (1st version available upon request) Workload is the constraint for having physics back in AD

14 SPS Experimental Areas

15 North Area Main works during LS2:
More information in Y. Kadi slides from IEFC 232 Main works during LS2: General : Global maintenance (Beam equipment, Magnets, power converters, CV …) Magnets : Hoses and electrical interconnections renovation TCC2 Access control system upgrade TCSC repairs (water piping to be redone) BDF Target removal TCC8

16 Planning in production (Sylvain Girod)
North Area More information in Y. Kadi slides from IEFC 232 EHN1 Flammable gas detection renovation (Salève Side) Gas Network consolidation (Salève side) New RP buffer zone 3 New power converters (NA61 & ATLAS Morpugo) Extension GIF (Not approved yet) New user area PPE144 for NA64 (Not approved yet) ECN3 New RP Buffer zone in b.911 Planning in production (Sylvain Girod) SPS Restart is the constraint for having physics back in the North Area

17 HiRadMat Main Work : cabling + patch panel installation (TNC)
Renovation of TT61 area Beam Instrumentation: assembly of smaller “giraffe” Update of layout New surface lab (Not approved yet) Upgrade of Beam Windows & Dump (Not approved yet) Planning in production (Aymeric Bouvard) SPS Restart is the constraint for having physics back in HiRadMat

18 Awake Operation without proton until the end of December
Operation during LS2 (Priority) : AWAKE request several months of laser-electron-plasma run BUT Access maintenance in the SPS (No access system in AWAKE from Jan Apr.19) 400kV maintenance in the SPS (No power for AWAKE from May 19 - May 20) Cabling activities in BB4 (lock out required, Not yet planned accurately) Future work : Dismantling of the CNGS Target Cavern (Scope and planning not validated yet, could be done during LS2 or at a later stage)

19 AWAKE Run 1 during LS2 Courtesy to Ans Pardons SPS BE-CO BE-ICS EN-EL
No controls available BE-ICS No access system Power limited to 90 MVA Maintenance 400kV, need alternative power source EN-EL Cabling in the false floors of BB4 mean no power to AWAKE. EN-EL should release a planning mid-June, identifying when AWAKE can perform measures for run 1.Several periods of at least one month have been requested. AWAKE Run 1 No run1 possible Run 1 when power available (i.e. no cabling in BB4) Run 1 and/or run 2 with laser, electrons and plasma Run 2 Can remove shielding and install equipment for run 2 when cabling in BB4 or other works block run 1 (~2months of work)
