Structure and Organization of Education The Education system during Vedic Period was divided into two (02) levels: 1. Primary Education: 2. Higher Education : cont.:

5 Primary Education : At age of 5 years of the child.
Organized in the family (HOME). Ritual is performed called ‘Vidyarambha samskara’ (commencement of education)

6 Organized in the Gurukuls (School). Admission Age:
Higher Education Cont.: Organized in the Gurukuls (School). Admission Age: Brahmin children – 8 yrs. of age Kshatriyas – 10 yrs. Vaisayas- 12 years Shudras : Deprived of education

Higher Education : Upanayan samskara Commencement of the higher education

8 Meaning of Education: Knowledge, Humility and Discipline
Narrow Knowledge of all subjects. Training of arts and skills Imparted in the Gurukuls. Extensive Education as a life -long process Self study

9 Veda (Hindu religion)oriented Education:
Salvation or moksha was the ultimate aim of education. Education as The Third Eye of Man. Sound health, spiritual development Moral and Character development. Education of Livelihood ,Arts and Skills.

APARA (Materialistic curriculum) PARA (Spiritualistic curriculum)

11 Language and method of teaching
Sanskrit language was used in teaching. Oral method of teaching Stressed on : Shravana (Listening), Manana (Learning) and Nidhidhyasana (Practice).

12 Status of women education:
No separate Gurukuls for girls. Common people could not educate their girl child due to stereotyped traditional beliefs. Only daughters of king, teachers and affluent families could take admissions to higher education.
