2 Introduction to CLM/LIBERIA 1.Number of Communities: Two (2) – Ganta – Monrovia 2.How many CLM: Eight (8) 3.Average age & general composition -Average age: mid forties (prime) -Composition: 7 women, 1 man -General health: strong, vibrant

3 Short History- CLM/Liberia 1. 1963: Arrival of Consolata Sistersin Liberia 2.Feb 2, 998: Arrival of Consolata sisters in Ganta, Nimba County with Sr Josephine Nyawira as Parish Sister 3.Two Parishioners (M. V. Massaquoi & H. Kamara ) expressed interest in affiliating with the Consolata missionaries in pastoral work

4 Short History- CLM/Liberia contd 4. 2002: Formation of Lay missionary started with one person 5. Formation disrupted by civil war in 2003 but restarted in 2004 and has continued since. 6. Rev. Sr. Ignasia Mbatta took over the formation; other Catholics expressed interest and were accepted; by 2006 there were 8 CLM undergoing formation

5 Short History- CLM/Liberia contd 7. May 2010: Elected a leadership of four – Chairperson, Formator, Secretary, Treasurer 8. Aug 2010: Developed the regulations/constitution to guide the life and operation of the CLM in Liberia

6 CLM/Liberia 1.When the communities meet – Monthly, every 2 nd Saturday : 2pm-5pm 2.Where the communities meet -Monrovia: St. Joseph Catholic Hospital Chapel -Ganta: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish

7 Communication & Coordination among Communities Yes, for general/joint activities - special celebrations, etc Other specific activities e.g. not coordinated

8 Who accompany communities Missionary sisters accompany the CLM at most meeting Thank You!!!

9 Consolata Lay Missionaries in LIBERIA 1.Importance of missionary activities in life CLM communities Various groups within the community look forward to CLM leadership in various activities, e.g. catechism, counseling, youth animation, prayer groups, etc For CLM members, activities have strengthened personal prayer and family life, developed a support- base (moral, spiritual, social, etc) for members

10 Consolata Lay Missionaries in LIBERIA Kind of activities CLM carry out in Liberia? – Youth ministry: seminars on lifestyle choices – Working with various church groups, e.g. CWO, CMO, Lectors, choir – Missionary animation: prison ministry, bible study with inter-denominational groups, catechism How many times CLM meets monthly? Once On 2 nd Saturday from 2pm to 5pm

11 Consolata Lay Missionaries in LIBERIA Kinds of Meetings Prayer: gospel sharing/bible study at every meeting Retreats: at least once a year and centered around the liturgical season Formation: based on set curriculum – History of Consolata Shrine, role of laity in the church (Vat. II), etc

12 Consolata Lay Missionaries in LIBERIA Kinds of formation With MC formator using the curriculum or materials related to the liturgical seasons Self-formation: – among CLM members in the form of Bible study – individually using the writings/teachings Bl. Joseph Allamano and the Con. Missionary Order Other formators: With dicesan priests on selected topics
