These microorganisms outcome from the mouth and nostrils of an infected person and enter an uninfected person through the routes.

What is not true
Leprosy is not related to a curse, bad luck or witchcraft.
Leprosy is not caused by certain animals or foods: mold fish, a tortoise or a goat.
There is no vaccine against leprosy.

Treatment varies between 6 to 12 months depending on the clinical form. Treatment prescribed by the doctor should be respected.
For patients with complications, the wearing of shoes adapted to patient, the wearing of gloves and sunshade eye glasses and cap are encouraged.
Community care is also important.
PREVENTION:
Bath with water and soap,
Do early diagnosis,
Refer suspected cases to health units,
Follow up treatment and break transmission chain.
