2 mission statement To support the needs of our highly capable students (K-12) in the Shoreline School District through the collaborative efforts of our parents, educators and administrators. Our objectives include: Increasing communication between the schools, the district and the parents. Building community among our Hi Cap families Supporting our Hi Cap educators within the classroom and with professional development opportunities. Advocating for gifted education at school, district and state levels.

3 2016-17 accomplishments Hosted community forums on 5/31, 10/3, 5/9/17
Held regular group sessions on 8/29, 9/26, 10/24, 11/28, 1/26, 3/9 Formed partnerships to collaborate on group objectives and learned district initiatives with School Board members, Superintendent Miner, Dr. Michael Power, Maria Stevens and teachers Hosted our first guest speaker Austina DeBonte “What Parents Need to Know about Smart Kids” Participated in the district Hi Cap Program Review committee work from October to February Conducted formal presentation to Shoreline School Board on 12/5 Reached out to other Hi Cap parent organizations in the Northshore and Edmonds school districts and also to the NWGCA for guidance and resources Started our Facebook group in August and grew to over 250 members! Successfully launched our new website ( in March!

5 SHAG in the community July 6: Attended UW seminar: “Hi Cap Programs: A Holistic Approach” February 2: Met with Representative Cindy Ryu to advocate for gifted education at Gifted Education Day in Olympia February 9: Attended the Hi Cap Equity Summit at the UW Robinson Center February 23: Several SHAG members spoke at the Board meeting with suggestions and questions for Hi Cap program March 11: Met with legislators at Education Funding Forum, A Conversation with Legislators in Shoreline May 1: Attended “State of the Schools” forum presented by Superintendent Miner May 9: Participated in the PSESD Northwest Highly Capable Student Workshop in Renton May 13: Participated in the visioning day "Our Children, Our Future: Shaping Shoreline Schools“

6 What’s next? Continue a strong partnership with our district leaders to enhance our Hi Cap program grades K-12 Continue increased communication with our parents and district staff through meetings, , newsletters, website updates and Facebook posts Increase our support to teachers Increase program equity for all Gain visibility with neighborhood school parents, teachers and administrators Increase our database.
