To create a forum for all Huntsville City Schools stakeholders to share ideas and concepts for enhancing school safety and parent accountability

5 School Safety Engagement Forums: Group Facilitator Teams
Lead Facilitator: Dr. Jeffrey Wilson Yellow group: Rena Anderson & Josh Morris Orange group: Andrea Penn & Thomas Jordan Pink group: Dr. Cary Grant & Monique Jackson Green group: Cedric Delbridge & Robert Haynes White group: Dr. Tim Scott & Steve Riche Each Group Facilitator has designated a plus one to cover in case they cannot attend a particular event

6 School Safety Engagement Forums: Concept (1)
HCS Staff leads school safety engagement forums to generate initial ideas and concepts for review and analysis HCS Staff designs conversations around topic areas that group ideas under general themes: Parent involvement and accountability School security measures Government initiatives (Local/State/Federal) Awareness HCS Staff pairs senior leaders with Campus Security Officer (CSO) Supervisors to facilitate discussion School safety engagement forums will be active environments for positive exchange of ideas and productive work toward actionable goals and objectives

7 School Safety Engagement Forums: Concept (2)
Participants will divide into small groups for focused work under the guidance of HCS Staff, then share input 5 meetings, 1 per feeder pattern District 5: Monday Oct. 1, CHS (5:30pm – 7:00pm) District 3: Tuesday, Oct. 2, GHS (5:30pm – 7:00pm) District 1: Wednesday, Oct. 3, JHS (5:30pm – 7:00pm) District 2: Monday, Oct. 15, LHS (5:30pm – 7:00pm) District 4: Wednesday, Oct. 17, HHS (5:30pm – 7:00pm) Forums will begin in the High School Auditorium. Sign in table will be present outside the Auditorium doors. Participants will be given a colored 3x5 card that will designate their small group. After the introductions by the Superintendent and the Lead Facilitator (10 minutes), group leaders will take their groups to designated break out rooms for their discussions (40 minutes) After discussion, groups will reconvene in the Auditorium for sharing between groups and closing comments (30 minutes)

To select a School Safety Task Force that is properly representative of the Huntsville Community to review input received from the School Safety Engagement Forums and provide recommendations to the Superintendent for actionable school safety goals and objectives

Three Categories of Applications Parent application Community Partner application HCS Employee application Page 1 will be personal information, and will be separated from the question narrative pages in each application by the Executive Administrative Assistant before the applications are given to the committee readers Page 2 will contain the question narratives Q1: please share information about your involvement in activities or organizations that support our schools and/or community Q2: how do you believe you can contribute to the goal of enhancing safety and security in our schools by serving on the School Safety Task Force? Q3: what perspectives would your participation bring to the School Safety Task Force? Q4: how do you think the School Safety Task Force can help generate interest and feedback about school safety and security status in Huntsville City Schools? How would you help the School Safety Task Force accomplish this goal? Page 3 will contain the Statement of Impartiality and Commitment

11 School Safety Task Force Parameters
2 year commitment Missing 3 meetings will result in dismissal from the Task Force Task Force will select Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Parliamentarian) HCS Staff will provide 2 senior mentors (Jeff Wilson, Rena Anderson) Task Force will leverage subject matter experts as required, who will be invited to specific meetings

Thursday, November 1: Discuss concept at BOE Friday, November 2: Application window opens/website page activated Friday, November 16: Application window closes/website page deactivated Friday, December 14: School Safety Task Force selections notified via letter Week of January 14: First meeting Subsequent meetings: Weeks of January 28, February 11, February 25, March 11, and March 25 Week of March 25: Recommendations presented to Superintendent April : Recommendations presented at BOE
