Monday 11/12/18 Agenda Parallel Structure Review: We will use the Grammar Bytes website to check your understanding of parallel structure. TKAM Review– We will quickly discuss/go over some of the questions thus far. TKAM Reading – We will read chapters 29 & 30 of TKAM today. Be sure to answer the discussion questions as we read. HOMEWORK – FINISH READING TO KILL A MOCKINGBURD AND COMPLETE THE QUESTIONS. JUST ONE CHAPTER (31) ALL TKAM PART 2 QUESTIONS WILL BE DUE ON FRIDAY 11/16 (1-10)

5 TECH Tuesday 11/13/18 Agenda TIMED CEI: You will type a CEI paragraph responding to the question provided for you on Edmodo. Be sure to use the template that is attached as well. READING INVENTORY 3: You will take your last RI of the semester today. As soon as you finish your CEI, login to scholastic using taneesha.george and your student number as the login info.

6 CEI QUESTION CHOICES: chOOSE one!
Question 1: "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." Which To Kill a Mockingbird character in symbolizes an actual mockingbird. Why? Question 2: Should the jury have voted to convict or acquit (find not guilty) Tom Robinson? Why or why not? Question 3: Tolerance is a theme of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. How does Atticus Finch exemplify tolerance as a themes (or show tolerance) in the novel? Question 4: Atticus tells Jem “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.” What situation (choose one) in the novel lives up to Atticus’ definition of what courage is?

7 Wednesday 11/14/2018 Warm-up Grab an EOC writing rubric from the front table. Read through the Constructed Response and Extended Constructed Response rubric. As you read, CIRCLE all of the action items (verbs) and draw an arrow to the items they refer to (see example)

8 Wednesday 11/14/2018 Cold Passage Reading: We will read “Betsy Holds the Reins” aloud as a class to prepare for today’s writing activity. Writing task round robin: Take your rubric (warm-up) and visit each writing sample posted around the room (A-G). You will start with the letter you were given as you walked in the room. Assign a score to each writing sample by writing the letter next to the score on your rubric. When time is called, rotate to the right. Writing Task review: Once you have scored each of the responses, we discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each. Individual Constructed Responses: Now that you are familiar with the expectations for these writing tasks, it is time for you to write your own Constructed Response and Extended Constructed response. You will respond to the same questions as the student samples. Peer Review: Use your rubric (warm-up) to score a neighbors constructed response and Extended Constructed Response.

11 Friday 11/16/2018 Unit 3 Touchstone: Today you will take your unit 3 touchstone on the computer. Open the IRrespond app and login using taneesha.george as the session ID and your student number as the password. EOC Extended Response continued: We will finish scoring yesterday’s extended responses if necessary. Use your rubric as a guide. TKAM Viewing: We will finally get to watch the film version of To Kill Mockingbird. Your discussion questions will be collected afterwards.

12 This week’s standards…
ELAGSE9-10RL3: Analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. ELAGSE9-10RL5: Analyze how an author’s choices concerning how to structure a text, order events within it and manipulate time create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise. ELAGSE9-10W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. ELAGSE9-10W9: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. CCRS L : Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words. CCRS L b: Analyze nuances in the meaning of words with similar denotations.

13 Differentiation Level 1 & 2 s from the 8h grade EOG will work with Mrs. Cowart Students who have not mastered CEI will continue CEI practice activities before moving on to CEIEI. Students who have not mastered CEI will receive prompts with lower level DOK. Student choice for CEI #3 prompts/questions
