Intervention works: No further help is needed Intervention does not work: Increased intensity tried Meeting with parents to refer to special education evaluation

5 IDEA Evaluation Parents request an evaluation (in writing)

6 Parents Notice of Legal Rights
Parents must formally consent before evaluation can begin

7 Evaluation Testing Observations Interviews

8 The School Team determines if the student qualifies for Special Education
Special Education teacher General Education Teacher Counselor Principal School Psychologist Parent Student

9 Qualifies for Special Education
IEP 504 Focus on specialized instruction, support, and accommodations Team develops IEP Parents sign off IEP team meets yearly Focus on accommodations and support Team develops 504 Parents sign off 504 team meets yearly

Parents can work with teachers to support learning Parents can seek an independent evaluator
