Different Pops And Sugars
By:Noah McComas Date finished by:December 4,2013
2
Scientific Question Which type of pop will go the highest using different types of sugar?
3
Background After I saw the pop lab with mentos I thought of what other types of sugar will make pop rise. After that I thought of using this idea for my project.I picked Mtn. Dew,Diet Coke, and Sunkist for my pops. For my sugars I picked Mentos,Mints, and Skittles.
4
Hypothesis If I test a mt. dew with mentos, then it will go the highest.
5
Variables Independent-Different pops and sugars
Dependent-Liquid left in bottles Constants-Sugars,volcano,and graduated cylinders
6
Procedure Make a volcano out of cardboard and paint.
Place one pop at a time in cardboard volcano. Place geyser tube on pop one at a time. Put 5 of each sugar in each type of pop at a time. Put the pop left in bottle in graduated cylinders and record data.
7
Data Of Pops With Mentos
Diet Coke 150 ml Mt. Dew 350 ml Sunkist 375ml
8
Data Of Pops With Mints Diet Coke 450 ml Mt. Dew 710 ml Sunkist 500 ml
9
Data Of Pops With Skittles
Diet Coke 310 ml Mt. Dew 670 ml Sunkist 500 ml
10
Conclusion Which type of pop will go the highest with different types of sugar? The pop mostly went up from the mentos and skittles. Diet coke had the least left of liquid in it from each sugar. My hypothesis was way off from my data.
11
Conclusion I learned that almost every sugar makes diet coke rise, but not regular pops. A problem we encountered were the mints sticking to the tube having to shake them out into the pop.
