V Oaths by what you don’t control are wrong
V. 37- Shouldn’t have to swear to anything
James 5:12- honesty should be the rule

5. V. 38-42- Revenge prohibited?
Original law was good- prohibited vengence
But, vengeful attitude must be the focus here after all...
Acts 8:1- church _______________, didn’t turn other cheek
Acts 16:37; 22:25- Paul demanded his Roman ______________
Rom. 12: Paul takes the figurative out of it

6. V. 43-48- Loving neighbor OK’s hating enemies?
V This is the lowest possible standard
V. 45, 48- imitate Father who treats all impartially
V. 44- show concern (love) for your enemies and pray for your persecutors
1 Peter 1: children imitate their Father
