March 2019 LCCU Meeting Updating Android phone O/S
How Android gets updated: Android has annual major updates from Google; security updates are monthly or quarterly. Android updates are created by Google and modified by the phone manufacturer and then by the carrier. For phones manufactured after 1/31/2018, Google requires manufacturers to regularly install feature updates for 2 years and security updates for 3 years. Google devices get 2-3 major updates, and are the first to receive them, Pixel phones get 3 years.

January 2019 LCCU Meeting Podcasts
Definitions: Podcasting is a free service that allows Internet users to download audio files (typically MP3s) from a podcasting Web site to their computers or digital audio players. Podcasts are audio files that are the digital equivalent of radio shows (but can also be videos) distributed via the web with RSS feeds. Podcast is a combination of the words iPod and broadcasting, but any audio player will play them.
30
January 2019 LCCU Meeting Podcasts
How it works: Locate a podcast series you like and select a podcast you want to hear. Listen right away or download, or subscribe to RSS feed. If downloaded, may copy file to audio player. Listen with a Podcast Manager (podcatcher) such as iTunes, Grover, VLC media player, or Winamp, etc.. Some sites with podcasts are the iTunes Store, Google Play Music and directories like The Podcast Directory.

How do you get & use Dropbox: Go to Dropbox.com, click “Get Dropbox Basic” for a free 2GB account. Create an account or sign in. A folder called Dropbox is created on your hard drive and an icon on your system tray to manage it. Files copied to the Dropbox folder are synced to your account and files you delete are removed from it. Dropbox keeps a 30-day history of changes. Collaborate by sharing files or using Dropbox Paper.
41
March 2019 LCCU Meeting How safe is Dropbox?
Uses for Dropbox: Copy files or photos to a folder in Dropbox on your PC, specify to share with others, or receive shared files. Install it on your phone and choose to have phone photos automatically uploaded to make them available to your other devices. Copy your encrypted password manager database to a Dropbox folder for backup. DataVault can do this. Collaborate on a document using Dropbox Paper.
42
March 2019 LCCU Meeting How safe is Dropbox?
How Dropbox security works: Dropbox encrypts the data before sending it over the internet using SSL/TLS with AES 128-bit encryption. Your data is copied to the Dropbox servers, decrypted, then encrypted again using AES-256-bit. Your data is then copied from the servers to your other devices over the internet using SSL/TLS encryption. Data on your computer is decrypted and stored on your hard drive. However, Dropbox has your encryption key.
43
March 2019 LCCU Meeting How safe is Dropbox?
Make Dropbox Safer: Log into Dropbox, click your Username, Settings and Security tab. Under “two-step verification”, click “Enable”. You’ll need a code sent to your phone to log in. January 2019 LCCU Meeting Avast Secure Browser
Summary of reviews: It’s available from Avast Secure Browser without installing Avast antivirus. Speed is similar to Chrome, faster than Firefox. Has AdBlock, anti-phishing, anti-tracking, anti-fingerprinting, flash-blocker, extension guard, and requires HTTPS encryption, all on by default. Banking mode works only if Avast antivirus is also installed. Has a VPN, works if SecureLine VPN ($) is installed.
