Sign: objects or gestures that express on specific message or meaning. (ie – McDonalds arch)

Symbol: A symbol is something which represents an abstract idea and must be connected with a context for them to make sense. (ie- a red rose given as a gift may represent love)

4. RITUALS
Ritual: Rituals are bodily actions surrounded by language that make symbols effective within a culture. (ie – the sign of the cross)

5. RITES
Rite: Rites are solemn and ceremonial acts or procedures that follow the rule customary to a community, especially a religious group, (ie - the rite of baptism). It can also be a significant transitional event, which can be described as an event or act that marks a significant transition in human life.
