5. UNI Europa Commerce Action Plan
The Action plan was elaborated on the basis of the resolutions adopted in Madrid on the 9th and 10th of June by UNI Europa Commerce and its affiliates.
Five action points were adopted:

6. 1. Working hours and work/life balance
Information about work on Sundays, during holidays and late evenings
Working Time Directive: UNI Europa Commerce will push its claims in this debate
European Alliance for Sundays Free of work
Launch of a European campaign for a fairer work-life balance and against work on Sundays and late evenings

7. 2. Organising members in Commerce
Support the setting up of global company alliance and the negotiation of global framework agreements
Seek to integrate the work on EWC’s into the global work on multinational companies
Share any information with each other to ensure equal footing in decision-making
Fight precarious work
Fight companies that do not respect workers freedom of association and those set up fake trade union
Promote of organising members in new members states and candidate countries
Exchange experiences and identify organisers on the ground
Each UNI Europa Commerce affiliated organisation will develop plans to recruit or keep members. These plans target women and young workers

8. 3. European Works Councils in the commerce sector
Develop close cooperation between EWCs and global alliances
Support trade unions and EWC members
Improve the level and the quality o participation of workers representatives
Support workers and trade union representatives to set up new EWCs, where union membership is high enough
Improve coordination and communication flows
Nominate EWC coordinators and facilitate networking among them
Negotiate the allocation of financial resources to facilitate training and exchanges between Works Councils members

9. 4. Employment and quality of services
Put more efforts into ensuring access to education and vocational training
Initiate necessary steps to improve the quality of services
Deepen its work with EuroCommerce
Promote the development of non-profit commerce initiatives
Cooperate with trade unions outside Europe and from other sectors
Hold multinational retailers accountable as regards their global and local labour policies

10. 5. Inclusive labour market
Continue to lobby the European institutions on key legislation with regard to age discrimination
Develop and extend best practice
Continue UNI Europa Commerce’s cooperation with EuroCommerce on « Establishing a European Network for anticipating skill needs in the commerce sector » project
Explore the possibility of a common position on properly paid apprenticeships with EuroCommerce
Adapt organising TU member strategies to empower young, women and older workers in the defence of their rights
