9 State, review, and reinforce positively stated expectations.
Establish behavioral expectations/rules. Teach rules in context of routines. Prompt or remind students of rule prior to entering natural context. 11 Positive and Negative After leaving class, Julie stops and talks to several friends before going to her locker. She is several minutes late to her homeroom and the class is held up going to lunch While walking down the stairs to lunch Andrea decides she has to go back and use the bathroom. Since she is at the end of the line she simply turns around and goes back. Sam was late to homeroom for the third day in a row and rushed at his locker. When he gets into the cafeteria he remembers that he left his lunch bag in his locker. His homeroom teacher escorts him upstairs. After leaving class, Jenny goes directly to her locker and arrives on time to her homeroom before the class goes to lunch Before it is time to walk to the cafeteria, Frank asks his homeroom teacher if he may use the bathroom While at his locker and before returning to his homeroom, Jimmy remembers to bring his lunch bag and his books for the afternoon

13 Positive and Negative When entering the cafeteria Sandra walks to her table Tricia speaks only to those students seated near her and does not raise her voice or shout to others Sara has to go to the nurse, she finds the teacher on duty and asks permission before leaving the cafeteria After eating lunch, Juan picks up his trash and utensils and places them in the trash. James loves pizza and runs in the cafeteria to get in line While eating lunch Rachel shouts to her friends sitting two tables over When he gets to the cafeteria Brendan realizes that he forgot his lunch upstairs and without asking leaves the cafeteria and walks upstairs to get it Sylvia leaves the cafeteria with a spoon/fork in her mouth. When spoken to she reluctantly throws it in the trash Jeremy leaves several used napkins, a fork and a milk carton at the table and gets up to leave the cafeteria when students are dismissed without picking them up
