Common Procedures These “common procedures” will be posted in your classrooms. This slideshow explains how ALL Braves are expected to behave at certain times and certain places. Your grade level may add more specific behaviors, but these “common procedures” will be looked for by ALL SCMS staff. You earn spirit tickets and quarterly POW WOWs for rising to these procedures.

Morning Bus Bells Before 7:30, students should report immediately to cafeteria to receive breakfast, and then enter the gym when done eating breakfast. In the cafeteria, students should speak softly (not talking in the lunch line at all) and keep the eating areas clean. If a spill occurs…clean it up! Thank you! In the gym, students should sit by grade level, use a low speaking voice, and stay put. To exit, students should wait for the adult to call the grade. Then move along the risers to the stairs before walking down. One does not hop or run down the seats! Students should also walk along the boundaries of the gym floor.

Morning Homeroom Go to the restroom, water fountain, and lockers BEFORE entering your homeroom. Homeroom bell is 7:44. Once you have materials from your locker, go straight to homeroom. No “hanging out” in the hallway. If you still need a breakfast, you may get one from the cart. Be sure to clean up and dispose of any trash in the bins provided in the hallway. You need to obtain a pass to leave your homeroom. Library passes should be obtained before 7:44.

Lockers Students should follow the posted locker times and afternoon procedures for their grade level. You should have a pass to go to your locker during class time. Purses, cell phones, and backpacks should remain in lockers. No opened liquid containers should be left in lockers.

Entering Class Students should line up QUIETLY outside the classroom if the door is closed and/or the teacher is not present. You should enter class quietly, prepared with ALL required materials (pencils, books, binders, work). All students should begin work on the daily POWER UP. Students should keep materials in the area indicated by the teacher. If the student lacks required materials, s/he should obtain materials following the classroom procedure (e.g. Spirit Tickets) within the first few minutes of class. Excessive tardies will result in steps on the Classroom Consequence Path!

Materials Every student should bring his/her materials to class EVERY DAY! All writing instruments (except pencils) should be put away unless instructed otherwise. If using mechanical pencils, please fill them during power up time. If lead falls to the floor, please pick it up immediately. Avoid deliberately breaking pencils/pens or vandalizing classroom equipment. If you must doodle, use paper! Homework will be required throughout the year. Check websites or keep a planner to follow your assignments. Consistent review of your notes should become a habit!

Leaving a Class The teacher closes and dismisses the class—not the bell. Pick up the classroom before you leave (especially trash and other items from the floor). Make sure you have all of your belongings BEFORE you leave---you may not be allowed to return until the next passing period.

General Participation
During instruction, please raise your hand and be acknowledged by the teacher BEFORE speaking or moving out of your assigned area. You must stay seated while a teacher is delivering instruction. PERIOD! You will be expected to keep distracting behaviors (e.g. tapping) to a minimum.

Gum/Water Bottles You will be allowed to have water as long as you use it appropriately. This privilege may be revoked on an individual basis. Water must be in a see-through container. No food, drinks, or candy allowed in the room without prior teacher permission (such as parties or reward days).

Bathroom You may only go to the bathroom during the assigned passing period or with a class under supervision. If you are in the bathroom at an undesignated time, you must have a pass. You should use the facilities for their designed purpose. Vandalism or littering of our common bathrooms is disrespectful to your fellow students, the teachers, and out custodial staff. Take pride in your school!

Hallways When moving as an entire class or grade-level, please walk single file without talking. We must respect the learning environment. If using an individual pass, you are expected to go to and from your ASSIGNED destination only. Make your trip quick, quiet, and efficient. If you happen to be moving in a small group (e.g. library or concessions), travel in pairs side by side on the right side of the hallway. You should not carry on disruptive conversations. Be quick, quiet, and efficient!

Outside You are to stay with your assigned group during outdoor times.
You should participate in the activities provided. You must follow the directions of the teacher for each activity (e.g. track, kickball, soccer). Do not loiter under trees or touch the trees. If in the garden, do not run/roll up and down the hill or jump the posts. If allowed to congregate under the pavilion, you should sit and talk quietly. Take pride in this new area. Leave our grounds picked up of equipment and trash. Thank you! Before entering the building for lunch, all groups must line up with the monitors. Enter the building quietly through your designated area.

Cafeteria/Lunch Follow hallway movement procedures. Wait patiently for monitors to welcome you into the cafeteria. Keep hands and feet to yourselves. Students eating a school lunch should line up immediately. After picking up tray and silverware, enter the food line without talking. Wait patiently for cafeteria workers to replenish food. Take only what you can purchase. You may NOT re-enter the food line once through it. Students with a lunch from home should take their seats immediately. Students should converse quietly. Clean up your area as soon as you finish. Do not wait until you are dismissed. You may choose your seats so there is NO seat switching, roaming, or turning around to talk with another table’s students. Exit when your table is called. Walk! Keep hands and feet to selves. No food is to leave the cafeteria.

Assemblies Follow hallway procedures, entering quietly. Be seated in area designated by your teachers. Fill the bottom rows first, moving upward. Look for the focus signal from your teachers or principal. Have fun at the assemblies, but participate quietly according to the prompts of the guest speaker. We are the BRAVES! WE RISE ABOVE THE REST! At dismissal, wait to be called by your teacher. You will exit from top to bottom. Move along to the stairs area walking down carefully. Avoid running or jumping down the risers.

Afternoon Dismissal Report to your bus bell room/homeroom quickly and efficiently. Follow your grade’s locker and bell procedures. Once you leave the room, you must report to car riders or your bus line. There is no “hanging out” in the hallways or bathrooms. Once you exit the building, you do not re-enter to loiter.

Late Bus Duty Students should report to the cafeteria immediately.
Sit in your assigned area. Speak at a low volume. You may not move from your area without permission. If you must use the restroom, first get permission. You may only go to the restroom in the sports lobby before returning. Be quick, quiet, and efficient. If the concessions area is open, be sure to return quickly to the cafeteria and clean up your area. Take pride in the games and other activities provided by the monitors. Listen for your bus to be called. Walk quickly but do not run.

After School Activities
All school rules and procedures apply to after school activities (e.g. SOAR, tutoring, PBS, and dances). You should stay in your assigned areas. Avoid roaming. You are expected to arrange for your ride and pick up time PRIOR to coming to school. Late pick-ups may result in losing the privilege of attending future after-school activities. Cell phones may be allowed near the end of the activity in a special area. Do not have cell phones out and in use during the activity.
