- Launched following the inclusion of Water-related products in Ecodesign Working Plan
- preparatory study has been completed Autumn 2014
- analysed options to improve environmental performance (e.g. energy efficiency and water efficiency);
- DG Environment leading the work in cooperation with DG Energy, DG Growth
- Preparatory study carried out by DG JRC, IPTS (Seville) and IES (Ispra)
Toilets and urinals
- preparatory study is put on hold to evaluate take-up and impacts of Ecolabel criteria

10. Preparatory study on taps and showers - Policy options based on findings of the preliminary report
Objective: collect evidence, explore policy options and recommend the best policy mix to improve performance:
1. ecodesign and/or
2. labelling and/or
3. self-regulation/voluntary measures if allowed by specific Directive (not for labelling)
Mandatory labelling: substantial savings (ca. yearly water extraction of the Czech Republic, yearly primary energy consumption of Slovenia in 2025)
Ecodesign: no substantial additional benefits with disrupting the market, limiting consumer choice
