4 Paragraphs A group of sentences with one main idea.

5 Paragraph format Indent the first sentence of every new paragraph. (Tab to indent) Keep an even margin around the paper. Sentences should only have one space between them, but should continue on the same line. You don’t need to have a new line for every paragraph.

12 Supporting Details Use details to support your ideas and make your writing more interesting. Boring sentence: One student was rude to some others. Detailed sentence: The high school boy yelled at the younger boys, “You’re stupid!”

13 The Conclusion Ties the composition together and gives closure.
Types of conclusions: restatement of the main idea summary of the points look to the future related thought that grows out of body a combination of several types of conclusions

14 Titles Centered Capitalize the first letter of the most important words in the title use a capital letter after a colon (:) Don’t capitalize articles, prepositions, or coordinators Do not write a sentence as a title
