Reflection Questions Jelissa Knight Period 6 Aice Mediastudies

2 How does your product use or challenge conventions?
My project didn’t really go with the norm as the original music videos. When making a music video people tend to not do exactly as the song is saying and I personally always found that troubling. I looked it up and it seems that the artists likes to leave their fans guessing by not doing exactly what’s in their song but still making it related to it. As a result of this, I decided to make my video by doing exactly as the song says so that it would be more relatable to the audience that would see it. Normal conventions would have a bunch of dancing in the music video because it’s pop music but I decided to just use a chill tone/mood in my video.

3 How does your product represent social groups or issues?
My product represents young adults who are stressing and needs a day to just chill. Young adults nowadays have a lot of pressure on them to make it to the level of financial stability. Sometimes it can have people so distraught and stressed that they end up killing themselves. The lazy song highlights people just stepping back and taking a day to relax for themselves away from their responsibilities. This reaches teenagers and teach them from early on to do so.

4 How does your product engage with audiences?
My product engages with audiences because pretty much everyone can relate to it. Personally, with my experiences as a teenager, I know what it’s like to just have an off-day where I feel done with school, life, and basically everything. The song I chose applies to everyone because at least once in life people felt stressed and just wanted to relax. This applies to adolescents, teenagers, and adults and that is part of the reason I chose this song. My video showing someone just laying around makes people want to say “same” or “I can totally relate.”

5 How would your product be distributed as a real media text?
To get my product distributed, I would first make a YouTube channel and post it on there. Then I would pay YouTube to promote my video so that more people would see it pop up. After that I would get an agent and try to get on vevo’s “what’s hot this week’. Next, I would promote it on social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. I would also try to get my video on MTV.

6 How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I have definitely grown as a filmmaker ; I am now looking at the lighting and the camera angles whenever I shoot a video or take a picture. Editing to me always seemed that it would be really hard but once you have the basics down everything seems to fall in place. I am now adept with using pinnacle studios and know what it’s like to be a camera man and editor. I actually enjoyed filming and editing and didn’t dislike anything about the process. I don’t see this as a career I would like to follow. Once I started filming, my storyboard and idea completely changed because my skills kept improving.

7 How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online- in this project?
During the video, I used my phone to call my sister’s phone so that it would show that her “responsibilities” are calling. Before hand I had her change my name in her phone to responsibilities. Using a computer, YouTube, and YouTube converter, I searched up the song and downloaded it onto pinnacle studios . I used the camera to film and my computer to dump the footage. Then I transferred the footage onto my flash drive to bring to school so I could start editing.
