6 Purpose & Objectives Purpose: to understand the programs we offer, that we as chapter leaders should be conducting and/or engaging in Objectives: Express the programmatic areas of focus in NSBE Outline collegiate programs Understand where year round programming should be focused

7 Programs A program is anything implemented to a service, opportunity, or resource to members. “Narrowly tailored to achieve a compelling interest” Implementation is dependent on resource allocation decisions A program has clear, defined objectives and goals with measurable outcomes. Objectives and goals should support the national and regional strategic direction, vision, and mission this Society. Support = Correlation a typically, many factors also affect objectives

8 Academic Excellence - Retention Program
Purpose: To improve graduation rates of Black students in the field of engineering and improve overall academic confidence and performance through focus areas. Freshman Year Sophomore Year Junior & Senior Year Increase the number of first year engineering students who successfully matriculate into a STEM major for their sophomore year. Increase interaction with faculty & staff Increase personal development Increase leadership opportunities Increase preparation for graduate school admissions Increase preparation for entry into the engineering industry Increase performance on the GRE increase opportunities for volunteer, educational, and paid experiences in engineering
