1 How to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography
Grisel cano

2 WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY?
An annotated bibliography is a list of sources, such as books, articles, and documents arranged in alphabetical order and with enough space in between them to explain each source’s content. Each citation is followed by a description of information which explains the content of the material. Some instructors may want an evaluation of the source, an explanation of the author’s background, or in my case, thesis, supporting points, and examples. The purpose of the annotated bibliography is to research each content in depth to obtain information that is beneficial for you and to write about it in order to plan your paper.

3 ANNOTATIONS VS. ABSTRACTS
Abstracts are the purely descriptive summaries often found at the beginning of scholarly journal articles or in periodical indexes. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author's point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority.

4 THE PROCESS First, locate relevant articles that can help you with your debate. Briefly examine and review the actual items. Usually those which have an author may be better than those which do not. Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. For this assignment, the purpose is to investigate a debate related to the topic you chose. Look at the pros and cons with an open mind. Sometimes this helps you change your mind about a particular debate.

5 Evaluate your sources Before printing the article, analyze the sources for your bibliography by answering the following questions:

6 What are the author’s credentials?
Does the publisher have a good reputation? Are there facts to support the author’s argument? Is the article relevant to today’s world? (is it published in the past 15 years? Is it a primary or secondary source? Is the information based on research? Is the research credible?

7 MLA or APA MLA Citation Style and APA Citation Style handbooks are available at our library MLA is used for papers dealing with English and humanities APA is used for papers dealing with social sciences

8 examples: Gomez, Richard. “The College Challenge.” Hispanic American Review 24, no. 10 (2010):

9 Annotations The major thesis of this article is that the Hispanic population is growing in the US because of higher fertility rates, lower mortality rates, and immigration numbers. Some of the facts to support this thesis are the following: Fertility rates: an average of 3 children per family as per Census 2010. Mortality rates: The average death rate is 76 years old as per Census 2010. Immigration: The number of Hispanic immigrants coming to the US as doubled since 1980.

10 assignment Print the articles, read them, highlight them, and annotate them. Write the Annotated bibliography, one citation per article, per page. Attach the article to the page
