6 Facts The construction of the Berlin Wall did stop the flood of refugees from East to West, and it did defuse the crisis over Berlin. (Though he was not happy about it, President Kennedy conceded that “a wall is a hell of a lot better than a war.”)  The walls main purpose was to avoide war, but it caused a lot of grife and sadness. More than 2 million people from East Berlin visited West Berlin the weekend of November 9, 1989 to participate in a celebration that was, one journalist wrote, “the greatest street party in the history of the world. This was a celebration of the wall being torn down. People were happy and had a larger sence of freedom.

Visuals of the comic: Berlin wall (barbed wire on top) Bodies/people hanging over wall (from east) Official/business/governor arms outstretched (saying quote) Words shown in the comic: Quote- “see how many people are staying on our side.” Also near the bottom it says “BERLIN WALL ERECTED AUG ” By:Charlee, to present: Words shown in the comic: Quote- “see how many people are staying on our side.” This quote is saying that the people of east Berlin can no longer leave due to the wall and its tight security. This can also mean that the people are forced to stay because too many people where leaving. Between 1945 and 1961 when the wall was built million people left east Berlin or when through east Berlin to escape. That is one of the reasons that the wall was established in the first place. Also near the bottom it says “BERLIN WALL ERECTED AUG ” Visuals of the comic: In the comic we can see the wall with bodies/people strung over with arms hanging over the wall, stuck on barbed wire. Near the top we also see the man who is saying the quote having his arms outstretched like he has something to show/prove. The bodies/people stand for those who are desperately wanting to get over the wall, to some no matter the risk including the 80 people who died trying to get to West Berlin. The person saying the quote stands for the officials who want people to stay in east Berlin and the ones who helped/orchestrated the building of the Berlin Wall.
