Dividing Fractions and Mixed Numbers
Objective: Learn to divide fractions and mixed numbers.

Reciprocals: 1. Reciprocal means to “flip” the fraction. 2
Reciprocals: 1. Reciprocal means to “flip” the fraction. 2. You put the numerator in the denominator’s place and the denominator in the numerator’s place. Example of Reciprocals: Find the reciprocal of 4 = 11 2) Find the reciprocal of 3 = 8 3) Find the reciprocal of 1 4 4) Find the reciprocal of 7

Steps for dividing fractions:
1. When dividing fractions you have to find the reciprocal of the second fraction Then you change the division sign to a multiplication sign Multiply normally. 4. Convert any improper fractions to mixed numbers. 5. Simplify. K C F Example: 5 ÷ 2 15 = 12

When dividing Mixed Numbers:
Re write the mixed numbers as improper fractions. Find the reciprocal of the second fraction. Change the ÷ sign to a × sign. Multiply normally. Convert the improper fraction back to a mixed number. Simplify.
