Place your homework on your desk. Read the following sentences: He wanted to go to America and find his mother. At 16, Enrique resolved to make the journey. The only information he had was Lourdes’s phone number, which he wrote on the waistband of a pair of blue jeans. What words or phrases in the sentence might be context clues that help you determine the meaning of “resolved”? What do you think the word “resolved” means?

We Do… Urban Prep is Chicago’s only public all-male, all-African-American high school. The school has a big goal: helping every one of its students get accepted into college. To some, the school’s mission seems bold. Urban Prep’s students come from some of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Many of the students grew up around gangs.
