2 Black History Month Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role they have played in U.S. history

3 Black History Month The following are some African Americans who advanced civil rights, or made major impacts in science, government, sports, or entertainment.

4 Civil Rights Leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. leads the fight for rights for African Americans in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe

11 Sports Track and field athlete Jesse Owens wins four gold
medals in the Berlin Olympics (1936), thwarting Adolf Hitler’s plan to use the games to demonstrate “Aryan supremacy.” Joe Louis, the iconic “Brown Bomber,” becomes the heavyweight boxing champion of the world in 1937 by defeating James J. 13 Entertainment Chuck Berry is a musician from the 1950’s – 1970’s.
