Stone and other materials are extracted from quarries.

Yes; numerous quarries can be found around the county.
Some of these are sources of limestone and sandstone.
Leamlara Quarry, Carrigtwohill, provides sand and gravel for use in construction.

McMonagle Stone is one example of a business that exploits rock for use in the construction industry.
McMonagle owns five quarries.
Examples of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are extracted by the company in a number of locations throughout Co. Donegal – rocks include granite, sandstone, and quartzite.

McMonagle Stone is a source of jobs.
The company has employed 90 people to work between its five quarries.

McMonagle Stone’s main quarry is located in Glencolmcille, Co. Donegal.
This quarry extracts gold quartzite (or brown quartzite).
This rock is used in building and garden furniture.
