1 Acid Reflux Zillia Biniam , 5th hour

2 History of acid reflux : The word ‘’ reflux’’ has its origins in the Latin word ‘’refluxus ‘’. It comes from the Latin word ‘’refleure’’, which means ‘’to flow back, to recede’’ acid reflux occurs when stomach flows back into your esophagus, causing pain and discomfort. This condition is known as heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux.

3 The increase was apparent in both men and women and across all ages, although middle age appears to be when the most severe symptoms occurred.

4 Symptoms of acid reflux
Heartburn, belching, pain or difficulty swallowing, excess saliva, chronic sore throat, laryngitis, gum inflammation, erosion of tooth enamel, chronic irritation in your throat, morning hoarseness, sour taste and bad breath can be some common symptoms of acid reflux.

5 Acid reflux affects the body systems
Acid Reflux typically affects the esophagus, as the primary problem is the movement of acid from the stomach, where it is made, up into the esophagus. Chronic acid reflux can irritate and disrupt the lining of the esophagus.

6 Causes of acid reflux Acid Reflux typically occurs when acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter, a muscle located at the bottom of the esophagus, opens to let food in and closes to keep it in the stomach. When this relaxes too often or too long, acid refluxes back into the esophagus, causing heartburn. Being overweight, overeating, consuming certain foods, such as citrus, chocolate, fatty, and spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol and smoking can also cause acid reflux.

7 Cures and treatment for acid reflux
GERD is a condition in which liquid, or food, in the stomach flows back up into the esophagus due to the inability of a ring of muscle between the lower esophagus and the top of the stomach to close properly. If drugs aimed at neutralizing the acid in the stomach fails to prevent GERD, an operation designed to correct the mechanical defect is considered. The less medications, diets and lifestyle changes can also help acid reflux. The Mayo clinic provides new treatment for acid reflux disease. The treatment involves a minimally invasive procedure where a small ring of magnetic beads is inserted around the end of a patient's esophagus. Swallowing temporarily breaks the magnetic bond between the beads, so that food can enter the stomach. Magnetic attraction then causes the beads to close so acid can't flow into the esophagus.

8 Treatment and cure for acid reflux
