Forest Plot of Folic Acid Supplementation and Stroke Risk The diamond represents the pooled risk estimate. Interstudy heterogeneity was tested using the Cochran Q statistic (chi-square) at a significance level of p < 0.10 and quantified by the I2 statistic. The results show a RR of 0.80 in favor of folic acid. This 20% reduction in stroke risk was driven by the highly influential Chinese folic acid supplementation study, made in a community without folic acid fortification, but is the major supplement finding of the last 6 years.
