11. 1945 was an important year because it marked the end of World War II and the emergence of new relationships between the remaining world powers: the United States and the USSR. Prior to the official end of World War II, the Allies (United States, USSR, and Britain) hosted two conferences: Yalta in February 1945 and Potsdam in July These conferences were designed to help decide what would happen to Europe, specifically, Germany, at the end of World War II. In between the conferences, delegates from 50 nations meet in San Francisco for the United Nations (UN) in April of The United Nations, much like the original intent of the League of Nations, was created to maintain international peace and security. By May 1945, Germany surrendered to the Allies.
