1 Protons, Neutrons, Electrons
How Do We Find All 3? And Where Do We Get These Parts Of The Atoms?

2 So, How Do We Use All These Numbers to Make Sense of What We Have?
Protons: can be identified by the ATOMIC NUMBER C 6 12.011 Therefore… Carbon has 6 Protons

3 So, How Do We Use All These Numbers to Make Sense of What We Have?
Electrons: can be identified by the ATOMIC NUMBER C 6 12.011 Therefore… Carbon has 6 Electrons

4 So, how can we find the Neutrons then?
Neutrons: can be found when taking the ATOMIC MASS and subtracting out the ATOMIC NUMBER C 6 12.011 ATOMIC MASS = 12 ATOMIC NUMBER = 6 - 6 Neutrons

5 Practice!!!! protons Mg 12 24.3 neutrons electrons

6 Atomic Mass – Atomic Number
Magnesium 12 Protons 12 Electrons Mg 12 24.3 Neutrons = Atomic Mass – Atomic Number 24 – 12 = 12 Neutrons

7 Practice 2!!! protons Cl 17 35.5 electrons neutrons

8 Atomic Mass – Atomic Number
Chlorine 17 Protons 17 Electrons Cl 17 35.5 Neutrons = Atomic Mass – Atomic Number = 19 Neutrons

9 Practice 3!!! protons Bh 107 262.1 electrons neutrons

10 Atomic Mass – Atomic Number
Bohrium 107 Protons 107 Electrons Bh 107 262.1 Neutrons = Atomic Mass – Atomic Number = 155 Neutrons

11 Name That Element!!! ??

12 HELP ME FIND THIS ELEMENT!!!
I am a metal with 35 Neutrons...help me find my name!?!?!?! protons Hint: I am missing from either Group 10, 11, or 12. neutrons electrons

13 Dum, Dum-Dum, Dum, Dum... protons 35 neutrons electrons
We search the 3 possible groups and we check Atomic Masses – Atomic NUMBERS to see which one gives us 35 Neutrons 35 neutrons electrons

14 HAHA!!!! Zn 30 65.38 Zinc is the answer!!!
