Mrs. Rahn’s News Week of January 14, 2019 Word Study Words Students will be tested Friday. These are some examples of word patterns that will be used. The words on this list will not necessarily be the ones tested, but they will follow this spelling pattern. Each night make the words on the sheet and practice rhyming words to go with them Week 18 Blends (sp, sn, sm, sk) skip skin snob snack spin spot ski skid snip snow spoon sport smell smart smock smell *Visit for more phonics practice! Sight Words Students will be tested Friday. Students will have to say each word instantly, without sounding them out. Reading~ The Big Trip Focus Skill ~ Compare & Contrast Language~ Verbs (past, present, future) Writing~ Narrative Math~ Unit 3 Addition & Subtraction strategies (Math Challenge Wed.) & (Assessment-Friday) Science~ Plants Homework Daily: Reading passage for one minute, and read for 10 – 15 minutes. (AR) Monday: Math Sheet and Word Work sheet Tuesday: Math Sheet and Word Work sheet Wednesday: Family Night (No Homework) Thursday: : Math Sheet and Study Word Work list & sight words for test tomorrow. Math Challenge Our first Math Challenge will be Wed., Jan. 16. We have been practicing our math facts everyday in class. 1st graders are expected to complete 54 of 60 addition & subtraction facts in 4 minutes. Please practice at home with your child. We will have another opportunity in May. Specials SD4 – Tuesday (PE) SD5 – Wednesday (Art) SD1 – Thursday (Music) SD2 Friday (PE) SD3– Monday (Technology) Jan. 22nd *Please wear gym shoes on the day your child has PE. Our specials time is 12:10-12:55 100th Day of School Wednesday, Jan. 16 Your child may dress up like they are 100 years old.
