8 TC 5.2 presentation @ Plenary Panel, June 13th, 9:00-10:30 AM
INCOM 2018 TC 5.2 Plenary Panel, June 13th, 9:00-10:30 AM CC5 chair Prof. Panetto organizes a panel discussion of all TCs to re-evaluate the scope of each TC, avoid topic overlapping and define future directions. TC 5.2 members discussed 3 major trends on which TC 5.2 will work in future. (continued at next slides) Meeting of IFAC TC 5.2

9 Future trends (1) Resilient and digital manufacturing networks in the era of Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 technology enables new production strategies that require highly customized supply network control. Another trend is creation of resilient supply chains to cope with risks. The ultimate objective of plans and future developments is therefore to facilitate developments in management decision-support systems for design, scheduling and control of resilient and digital manufacturing networks and production systems. The vision of the overall contribution in next years is to bring together researchers and practitioners to present and discuss emerging topics in modern manufacturing modeling, management, and control in the emerging field of Industry 4.0-based resilient and innovative supply networks.

10 Future trends (2) Data Analytics for Decision-Support in Manufacturing
The challenges associated with the volume, complexity, and variety of smart and big data can be overwhelming. A big data project itself involves elements of risks in today’s big data era. The ultimate objective of plans and future developments of the working group is therefore to facilitate developments in different areas, e.g., risk and operations management through analytics from big data, manufacturing control, real-time scheduling. The vision of the overall contribution in next years is to bring together researchers and practitioners to present and discuss emerging topics in modern manufacturing modeling, management, and control in the emerging field of risk, analytics and operations.

11 Future trends (3) Human-centered and sustainable manufacturing
Human characteristics, such as age, gender, cultural background, and personality of operators, is often neglected in traditional decision-making models used in the design and management of the production and logistic systems. Co-bots, augmented reality and adaptable workstations are just some examples of how the production and logistic systems are changing. Sustainable manufacturing techniques such closed-loop supply chains The vision is to further investigate these new systems and to study how they can be designed and managed with human-oriented approaches. The integration between practitioners and academics, thanks to case studies and experimental analysis, will guide the next steps of the research to reach real applicable results.

12 TC 5.2 Scope Main conclusion:
TC 5.2 focus is management decision-support systems in digital, resilient and sustainable manufacturing and supply chain systems in the era of Industry 4.0. We should use unique TC 5.2 competence that allows connecting Industrial Engineering, OR, and Data Science for better management decision-support systems in manufacturing and supply chains The scope of Working Groups should be adjusted and new WGs can be created for missing topics. Meeting of IFAC TC 5.2

13 New TC 5.2 Awards Query from IFAC: “Dear TC Chair, Upon requests from different TCs, IFAC is discussing the option for TCs to install TC awards formally connected to IFAC.” Our proposal for TC 5.2 awards: 1) IFAC TC 5.2 Award “Best scientific contribution” of last 3 years in the scope of TC (1 to 3 articles) 2) IFAC TC 5.2 Award “Best industrial application” of last 3 years in the scope of TC (1 to 3 articles) 3) IFAC TC 5.2 Award “Outstanding contribution” to the activities of the committee (1 to 3  persons, who organise invited sessions, special issues, ... with the members of TC and for the TC 5.2 conference) For awards 1 and 2, the articles are nominated by the members of TC one year before of the conference. They are published before in a journal of IFAC or in another high level journal in the scope of TC. Then, the nominated articles are evaluated by at least 3 members of TC others than persons who nominated the papers. Finally the decision is made at the conference by the committee composed of the TC chair, vice-chairs and chairs of working groups within TC For award 3, we propose the same procedure, but it will be based on evaluation of organized sessions and special issues associated with MIM conference (how many sessions/issues, how many members of TC participated, impact of the TC on research community, ...) Such awards can be delivered at our triennial conference MIM, so once every 3 years.
