Types of Blood cells Red blood cells: Carry oxygen around the body
White blood cells: Attack bacteria and foreign bodies Plasma: the fluid that blood cells are in

Types of blood vessels Blood vessels are tubes that carry blood around the body. Arteries: Carry blood away from the heart. -Biggest artery: “Aorta” Veins: Carry blood into the heart. Biggest vein: “Vena cava” Capillary: Smallest blood vessels. Gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) and nutrients and wastes are exchanged here.

Heart The heart is a muscular organ that is responsible for pumping blood throughout the blood vessels to our body. There are two sides of the heart.

Right side of the heart Left side of the heart
Pumps blood into the lungs. Receives blood from the body. (deoxygenated) Left side of the heart Pumps blood to the rest of the body. Receives blood from the lungs. (oxygenated)

Circuits Pulmonary circuit Systemic circuit
The blood pathway from the right side of the heart, to the lungs, then to the left side of the heart. Systemic circuit The blood pathway from the left side of the heart, to the _______, then to the right side of the heart.
