3 ETC/ACC: Vision and Priorities
Consolidate monitoring work Support Air Pollution and Climate Change Policies Enhance linkages between air emissions and air quality Explore cross-benefits between Climate Change and Air Pollution policies monitoring is becoming more important: - new role of governance - role of public and media - implementing policies - credibility of assessments

6 EUROPEAN TOPIC CENTRE ON AIR AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Why Indicators ? To reflect the trend in Climate Change and its impacts on different sectors To assist the policy process by highlighting these trends and underlying where adaptation and mitigation measures are required To show politics effectiveness To support the process of Integrated Environment Assessment To raise public awareness to the problems of global change and its impacts EUROPEAN TOPIC CENTRE ON AIR AND CLIMATE CHANGE

7 Climate Change State and Impact Indicators
CC State Indicators: Give a quantitative and qualitative description of the actual changes occuring in the climate (e.g. temperature, precipitation) CC Impact Indicators: Describe the impacts of climate change on ecological, social and economic functions EUROPEAN TOPIC CENTRE ON AIR AND CLIMATE CHANGE

11 Criteria for Indicators
Accessible (attractivity to the eye) ? Correct to interpret ? Representative (issue, area) ? Regularely updated ? Reference values ? International comparible ? Scientifically well done ? Consensus on data validity / methods ? Additional Appropriate data sets (length of time series)? Appropriate level of sensitivity to CC (Related to policy process) (Applicable in assessments) EEA EUROPEAN TOPIC CENTRE ON AIR AND CLIMATE CHANGE
