Just because a church claims to be Christian… It may not be It may have lost its candle stand It may be full of lost people It may be poisoning those who are right This is something that makes us different

20. Jesus’ Church Has One Identity
Local churches can’t just claim Jesus They need to be of His “franchise” Revelation 3:8 Keeping His word = not denying His name

21. Jesus’ Church Has One Identity
The church is the Bride of Christ And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:2

The church is the Bride of Christ The church has no name of itself - She is the Body of Christ - She bears His name All the churches of Christ greet you. Romans 16:16
All of the “titles” of the church in the NT are not names but descriptions coming back to one idea – the church belongs to Christ. When it says “church of the laodicans, of the Philippians” or even “Sunset church of Christ”, these are descriptions. We need to remember this

23. Jesus’ Church Is Not Right of Itself
The church is established by Scripture The church is established to uphold it I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. 1Timothy 3:15
All of the “titles” of the church in the NT are not names but descriptions coming back to one idea – the church belongs to Christ. When it says “church of the laodicans, of the Philippians” or even “Sunset church of Christ”, these are descriptions. We need to remember this

24. Two Common Problems
1. Seeing the church as a denomination The church is not identified by a name The church is identified by Christ 2. Seeing the church as right The church is not right of itself It must constantly examine itself
Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord,

25. What Makes Us Different
There is no church identity beyond us - There are other Christians - They assemble as churches - They and we are not linked as churches (With a few exceptions)
Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord,

26. What Makes Us Different
There is no church identity beyond us There is no rightness in the church itself - Entirely conformed - Willingness to do whatever we are told - A church CAN be faithful
