Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton Found the National American Suffrage Association (NAWSA) Led the fight for women’s suffrage Aka, the right to vote Liquor industry and others feared women’s suffrage because of the suffragists’ support for prohibition.

Taft is Roosevelt’s good friend and Secretary of War Hand picked by Teddy to be his successor Defeats William Jennings Bryan in a landslide victory “Vote for Taft this time; you can vote for Bryan any time” Taft the Trust Buster Broke up 90 trusts in 4 years compared to Roosevelt’s 44 trusts in 8 years Roosevelt decides he doesn’t want to run again

Taft and the conservatives vs. Roosevelt and the progressives. Roosevelt and the Bull Moose Party “as strong as a bull moose” Party platform included: direct election of senators, initiative, referendum, recall, women’s suffrage, worker’s comp. etc… Republican Split Guarantees Democrat Victory Roosevelt goes off to shoot big game in Africa for a bit, then comes back, and decids he wants to run again

Clayton Antitrust Act – strengthened the Sherman Antitrust Act and protected labor unions Federal Trade Commission (FTC) – the business police, they enforce the Clayton Antitrust Act The 16th Amendment Legalized a graduated federal income tax

The Federal Reserve Act – Establishes the Federal Reserve System. The End of an Era The entry of the U.S. into WWI signals the end of the progressive era.
