3 Parental Encouragement
Form a parent-child book club. Let your child give you suggestions for what to read next. Help be a model for reading. Talk about what you like about certain books or articles (it can be from a magazine or newspaper!). Read the book first, then see the movie: Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials- September 18th The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2- November 20th The 5th Wave- January 15th Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children- March 4th Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1- March 18th

4 Afterword As always, you can ask us for help! Our goal is for students to be finishing a book at least every two weeks. The county curriculum states that students should be reading 6-8 books a quarter. For slower readers, we would like them to read 4-5 books a quarter. To help with these goals, we have assigned “homework” of 30 min a night / 5 nights a week. Please help us make this a priority for all students. Finally, we never want students to read a book that works against your family’s values. If you or your child are uncomfortable with a book they have chosen, please let us know. No child has to finish a book that makes them uncomfortable.
