SQUADS CPW Subject: Science
Learning Intentions - Today, I am going to practice College Readiness Standards in Science: Interpretation of Data, and 28-32 Scientific Investigation, and 24-27 SQUADS Success Criteria – I am successful if I can… Determine how the value of one variable changes as the value of another variable changes. Identify similarities and differences between experiments. Identify and use a simple mathematical relationship between data. Determine the experimental conditions that would produced specified results.

Science You have 2 Minutes to read your passage.
You will have 1 minute and 30 seconds to work on each question individually. You will have 1 minute and 30 seconds to work as a group and write your rationales for each answer.

Science 1. Which of the following figures best represents the results of the experiment cited by Student 1?

Science Which of the following describes a difference in the explanations presented by Students 1 and 2? Only Student 1 proposed that the pressure of a gas is influenced by the number of gas molecules present. Only Student 2 proposed that the pressure of a gas is influenced by the number of gas molecules present. Only Student 1 proposed that the pressure of a gas is influenced by the temperature of the gas. Only Student 2 proposed that the pressure of a gas is influenced by the temperature of the gas.

Science Student 2 presented experimental evidence to support the claim that the pressure of a gas increases as the: number of gas molecules in the gas increases. number of gas molecules in the gas decreases. temperature of the gas increases. temperature of the gas decreases.

Science 4. Suppose that the pressure of a gas changed due to a decrease in the average kinetic energy of the gas molecules and that during this change all other factors were held constant. Based on Student 2’s explanation, did the pressure of the gas increase or decrease? It increased, because temperature increased. It increased, because temperature decreased. It decreased, because temperature increased. It decreased, because temperature decreased.

Science 5. Suppose that the number of gas molecules in a gas was doubled and all other factors, except pressure, were held constant. Do the model presented by Student 1 and the equation presented by the teacher make the same prediction about how pressure would change? Yes; both predict that pressure would increase. Yes; both predict that pressure would decrease. No; the teacher’s equation predicts that pressure would increase, while Student 1’s model predicts that pressure would decrease. No; the teacher’s equation predicts that pressure would decrease, while Student 1’s model predicts that pressure would increase.

CPW Subject: Science Now ‘Squad Up’ and replay this PPT. Use the Student Answer/Rationale Sheet. Then exchange your Squad’s answer sheet with that of another squad. Launch the ANSWERS video. SQUADS
