2/3 were young strong men (18-30 yrs) Devastated family structures Mid-1700’s – movements to stop slavery By 1808, U.S., G.B., and Denmark outlawed the slave trade

Colonies gathered raw materials for mother country – shipped to Europe Europeans produced goods with materials – shipped goods around the world
