1 A Mad Scientist’s Chemistry Presentation
Laws of Definite & Multiple proportion

2 Molecules: A quick review
Molecules are the smallest electrically neutral unit. Monatomic molecules are the Noble Gases. HONClBrIF are the diatomic molecules. Molecules are made of 2 or more atoms sharing electrons. Non metal & non metal

3 Ionic Compounds Ionic compounds are made up of groups of charged particles. Cations and Anions The smallest neutral unit of the resulting crystal is called a Formula Unit. Metal and non metal

4

5 Law of Definite Proportion

6 Law of Multiple Proportions
Whenever two or more elements form more than one compound, different masses form with the same mass of another element in simple whole number ratios

7 You have 2 H for each 1 O in water
What does that mean? The Mad Scientist You have 2 H for each 1 O in water But: You have 2 H for every 2 O in hydrogen peroxide.

8 Does that apply for Both?
The Laws of Multiple and Definite Proportions apply to both Ionic and Covalent Compounds.
