Presentation on theme: "God call us to follow him"— Presentation transcript:

1 God call us to follow him

2 Unlike Samuel most people don’t hear an actual voice calling them to follow God but many people do believe that God still calls people today Here are some ways they think that might happen

3 Through God’s Word When we read about God in scripture Christians believe we are listening to God and learning about how God wants us to live

4 Through each other. Sometimes the example or the words of other people can help us get closer to God

5 Through the events of our lives
Through the events of our lives Sometimes we may be somewhere that reminds us of God or something happens to us that reminds us of God.

6 Through Prayer When people pray they try to develop a friendship with God and though we don’t hear a voice we may feel closer to God and our thoughts become more focused Can you think of any other ways?

7 Last year you learnt about the Liturgy of the Word
What can you remember? The Liturgy of the Word is a part of the Mass Another name for Mass is Eucharist which means Thanksgiving (What do you think God is being thanked for?) The liturgy of the Word is where we hear readings from scripture which tell us about how God wants us to live. Can you remember what Liturgy means?

8 Do you know what this is? It is called a LECTEN
This is where people read the scriptures from in mass

9 This book is a LECTIONARY
In this book are all the scripture readings we use in mass for each Sunday of the Year. The Sunday readings are on a 3 year cycle. That means every 3 years the readings repeat. Can you find out what cycle we are on now?

10 A Reading from the Gospel
In the Liturgy of the word these things all happen. Do you know what they are all are? Can you put them in order? A Reading from the Gospel The Alleluia The Homily or Sermon A Reading from the New Testament Bidding Prayers (prayers of Petition) The Responsorial Psalm A Reading from the Old Testament

11 “God be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.”
At the Gospel the people and priest make the sign of the cross three times on their forehead, on their lips, on their hearts. As we do they say to themselves, (not out loud) “God be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.” Why do you think this happens?

12 Gospel means “good news” and the reading is taken from the New Testament.
How many Gospels are there? Can you name the people who wrote them? During the Gospel we normally stand. Why do you think we do this? Before he reads the Gospel the priest says quietly to himself “Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your holy Gospel.” What do you think the priest is asking God?
