2. Watch
In today’s lesson we will be watching the first few scenes of the Globe’s 2014 production of The Duchess of Malfi.
Make careful notes about the presentation of these scenes and the way dramatic devices such as balconies and asides are used.
Notice where the production deviates from the original text. Evaluate whether this makes the play better or worse. Justify your opinion.
Make a careful note of changes of tone or pace, the use of lighting, music and props. Consider how each adds to your understanding of the play.

3. Check
Write about the Globe’s presentation of one of the scenes, comparing with the original text. Try to include critical terminology.
Try to consider why the Director and actors chose to present the play in this way. How does it change your response?
