Mission Janseva Mandal Jeevan Vidya
Empowerment of the weak, marginalized, exploited and the vulnerable irrespective of caste or creed with a preferential option for the weak tribals Jeevan Vidya Striving for empowerment of tribal women through leadership development, financial self-sufficiency and capacity building. Since its inception in 1969, JSM has been working with the tribals of Nandurbar District – particularly the Bhils and Kokanas. Through various interventions particularly in the field of agriculture: watershed management, seed banks, self-help groups, promotion of herbal medicines, legal awareness and education, the Mandal has strived to bring about development and empowerment of the tribals. And in order to empower the women of these vulnerable groups, the sisters group was invited, thus Jeevan Vidya gives special attention to the women’s empowerment and girl child education and empowerment amidst other village and community involvements

History Janseva Mandal Jeevan Vidya
Started in 1969 by Bernard Massat a Spanish gentleman for the upliftment of the tribal population Part of the Jesuit organization Bombay Xavierant Corp. Had boarding facilities in Shirpur, Khandesh, Manor and Thalassari Boarding in Nandurbar has been around for the past 15 years Jeevan Vidya Earlier operated under Janseva Mandal For past 10 years autonomously managed by Jeevan Vidya Trust

Activities Provide boarding and lodging facilities for tribal children (61 boys and 95 girls) Curricular Additional tutoring for Math, English, Marathi, computers Teaching to read and pronunciation Extra-curricular Cooking Using sewing machines Cycling, outdoor and indoor games Gardening and composting Personality development sessions Clay modeling Medical checkup camps Parent meetings Adivasi kids’ mothertounge is Ahirani Indoor games - chess, carom, ludo, jigsaw puzzles

Operation Do not have a formal process to “qualify” students for admissions Parents normally pay Rs (Jan Seva), Rs (Jeevan Vidya) per year for the facilities Students are between 5th and 12th grade and stay around kms away from the schools The school is a 15 min walk from the boarding facility Students have to follow a set schedule which gives them time for studies and play If a child is very poor and cannot afford their fee is waived.

Asha, Seattle Involvement
With Asha Seattle since Oct 2008 Asha provides for the operating expenses to run the boarding facility for about 120 children Funds were transferred on a half yearly basis till 2011, then we switched to a yearly basis in 2012

Shraddha got 71% and stood 1st in Arts at S.A. Mission College Sheetal Pawar got 68% stood and stood 1st in Science in the boarding Ashwini got 67% and stood 2nd in the boarding Total 9 girls appeared for HSC exam and all got 60+ 10th Standard Results Trupti Padvi got 83% and stood 1st in the boarding Anusha & Shweta got 75% and stood 2nd All others passed with good percentage

Sports day was organized in Jan by college girls with different games for different age groups. Mr. Shirish Chaudhari M.L.A of Amalner and other Political leaders Mr. Vijay Chaudhari, Mr. Subhash and his wife visited our boarding and distributed stationary to girls on the occasion of Mr. Vijay birthday.
