5 using formative assessment I introduced weekly, open-book tests in statistics and research methods in 2006/07 I used two, one-hour lecture slots to teach about the topic, and then had a 30 minute, 20 question MCQ open-book test When appropriate, the statistical topic tests also included questions about SPSS output and interpretation that the students had to generate

6 formative assessment used weekly tests as a framework to introduce formative assessment used an hourly weekly lecture slot to ask questions (using a PRS) about a topic compared results between 2006/07 (no formative assessment) and 2007/08 (formative assessment) in 2008/09, asked students to self report on formative assessment during their weekly test
