7 The Ministry: How to present the Ministry One Objective
To win souls for our Lord Jesus Christ Present slide Let’s start with the objective of the Ministry. The Ministry has one objective which is “to win souls for God’s Kingdom through evangelism” looking to meet God’s purpose and plan: the salvation of mankind through HIS son, our Lord Jesus Christ. This objective remains to be the same since the Association was founded.

8 The Ministry: How to accomplish the objective
1. The association of Christian business and professional men for service 2. Personal testimony 3. Personal evangelism 4. Placing and distribution of God’s word (Scriptures), in approved areas Present slide We achieve the objectives meeting the four points outlined here. (expand) #1 defines profile of members of the Association #2 is known as “evangelism without words” (evangelizing with what we are). As a basic requisite Gideons and Auxiliaries must be careful of their personal testimony in order to be successful in a 100% spiritual. Ministry #3 it is to reach non believers personally presenting the gospel in a conversational way inviting them to receive the gift of eternal life trough our Lord Jesus Christ. #4 It covers evangelism trough the mass distribution and placement of Scriptures in approved areas NOTE: All these concepts will be presented in ore detail later.

9 The Ministry: How to present the Ministry

46 Operating model The Ministry
We will see now how The Ministry of The Gideons International fulfills it’s call to evangelize trough an operating model

47 The Ministry: Operating model
Working in concert with pastors of evangelical Christian churches Acting as an extended missionary arm of the local churches Concentrating efforts on reaching non-believers Share slide The Christian Evangelical Church is the ministry’s basic support Without church support the ministry could not operate From them we get prayer, men and financial resources TGI are multipliers of evangelism trough the churches TGI offer materials and training in evangelism to Church leaders and congregations TGI operate as an extended evangelical arm – outsourcing - of the church, concentrating its efforts to bring non believers to the church

48 The Ministry: Evangelization model
1. Personal testimony (our conduct) 2. Personal evangelization (one to one) 3. Distribution and placement (of Scriptures in approved areas) Starting from the biblical truth which teaches that all believers are called to share Jesus, we must fulfill this mission both as individuals and as members of the body of Christ (The Church) In the ministry of TGI we have the particular call of reaching the world evangelizing in three specific ways: 1. Our personal testimony mirrored in our life stile and permanent Christian conduct. We evangelize with our behavior, without words, with what we are! 2. Personal evangelism (one to one), is a priority to the Gideon and Auxiliary. It permits immediate response to the call thus impacting spiritually the Kingdom of heaven an on his/her spiritual life. In Foundations II we will study a methodology for conversational evangelism and the reasons we ought to do it. 3. Distribution and placement of scriptures is another way of evangelism and we conduct them only in areas approved by the ministry The three ways of evangelism used at TGI are an answer of love and obedience. Remember that all we do is to exalt the mane of our God and our Lord Jesus Christ

49 The Ministry: In summary
An evangelistic ministry 100% spiritual with a single focus on: In summary The Gideons International is a ministry 100% Spiritual. It bases its existence on God's purpose and plan and on the mandate given by our Lord Jesus Christ to reach the world with the Gospel

50 Reaching souls for Christ
Remember that everything we do is for the honor and glory of our Lord Jesus Christ

51 The Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you: and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Mathew 28:19,20 The Ministry of The Gideons International The Gideons are evangelists fulfilling the great comission trough the ministry and as multipliers trough the church

52 The Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” Acts 1:8 Share slide The Ministry of the Gideons International Is a Ministry equipped by our Lord to fulfill HIS mandate

53 The Ministry of The Gideons
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” Isaiah 55:11 The Ministry of The Gideons International A Ministry of faith that believes that HIS word does not return void

54 The Ministry of the Apostles
“For Christ did not send me to Baptize, but to preach the Gospel not with eloquent words lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect” 1 Corinthians 1:17 Share slide The Ministry of the Apostles was to preach the Gospel – an extension of the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ

55 The Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ
“But He said to them I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also for this is why I was sent” Luke 4:43 The Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ was to preach the gospel as we see in Luke 4:43 He tells the apostles that he “must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also for this is why I was sent” The ministry of TGI is a continuation of the ministry of the Apostles which in turn is a continuation of the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ It is also the ministry of the body of Christ (the church) to testify of Christ

56 The Ministry - Workshop for reflection
¿What did God show us in this module? Team work Prayer: 1 minute Preparation: 2 minutes Presentation: 2 minutes The objective here is: to allow time to meditate in prayer to assimilate what the Holy Spirit has revealed in this module to exchange views with the group

57 The Ministry The call Foundations I
Next we will study how we have been equipped to fulfill with the call our Lord has made to us

58 Foundations I The call Workshop Now we will study “The call”

59 All Gideons and Auxiliary have been called individually to the body of Christ and also to be part of the Ministry. Now, what does to be called mean?

60 What is it? Action to attract someone’s attention
The call What is it? Action to attract someone’s attention Definamos el llamado…qué es? Un guiño, una señal, un silvido, una campana, un movimiento… Leer la diapositiva

61 From God From Jesus Christ Two calls to believers The call
God’s call is to every believer to testify of Christ Christ makes a particular call to some of them to be part of the Ministry

62 The call from God to the Church
The almighty, says The word, saved us and called us to testify of Christ This call is for the body of Christ, His church, for every believer When we receive Christ as our savior, I become part of the body of Christ and immediately I have the obligation to testify of Christ that is, to evangelize The body of Christ to testify of Jesus Christ

63 The call from God “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” II Timothy 1:8,9 Share slide The apostle tells us that God first saved us and then called us to give testimony of our lord Jesus Christ It is a call that requires a response of a life in holiness It is a call in line with God’s purpose and grace. It is a general call to all believers

64 The call from Jesus Christ
To be part of his ministry

65 The call from Jesus Christ
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers” Ephesians 4:11 The five ministries constituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ for the edification of the body of the Church. The Gideons International is in essence, an Evangelistic ministry called to bring The Gospel to the world

66 The call from Jesus Christ
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry” I Timothy 1:12 The Apostle Paul reminds us in his letter to Timothy who was the one who called us to be part of the Ministry He also reminds us that the Ministry belongs to Jesus Christ and that only by HIS grace HE has called us to be part of it Therefore, the honor and glory of all we do is for HIM

67 El llamado de Jesucristo
Who are called to The Gideons International Ministry? Compartir diapositiva

68 El llamado de Jesucristo
Those who Jesus Christ has invited according to HIS purpose El Señor Jesucristo llama a los que Él quiere Este llamado es de acuerdo a Su voluntad y gracia.

69 The call from Jesus Christ
“And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him” Mark 3:13 We can only be thankful with Christ for having chosen us to be part of one of his ministries We are not called for merits but for the Grace of God

70 The Gideons International?
The call Who makes the call to join the ministry of The Gideons International? It is important to understand who made the call to be part of the ministry of TGI Our commitment is with HE who called us We are committed to serve in obedience to his call

71 Our Lord Jesus Christ The call
Our Lord Jesus Christ has called us to be part of the ministry Our commitment is with him and it is to him that we will have to respond We will mow see how we can be called

72 The call Our Lord Jesus Christ has called us to be part of the ministry Our commitment is with him and it is to him that we will have to respond We will mow see how we can be called How?

73 The call from Jesus Christ
In many different ways Share Personal testimonies We talked of two kind of calls: a general one from God and another in particular from Jesus Christ our Lord. First God saved us Here we should share testimonies from the participants: A. Personal testimonies of 2-3 participants about how they were saved or received the gift of eternal life B. Personal testimonies of 2-3 participants about how they were called to TGI ministry. Comment on the fact that all these responses were positive but not all responses are positive, and show biblical examples of the difference We can share our personal testimonies and additionally invite 2-3 brothers to share theirs. Time permitting

74 A call requieres an answer… - Negative + Positive
The call A call requieres an answer…

75 Terah – A negative response
The call Terah – A negative response “And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there” Genesis 11:31 Terah is an example of a negative response to the call. Initially he responded in obedience but the attractions of the world deviated him from the call. He parts from Ur to Canaan, The Promised Land, but abandons his call and stays in Haran

76 Rich young man – A negative response
The call Rich young man – A negative response “And he answered and said to Him, Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth. Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me” But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions”. Mark 10: 20-22 Another example of a negative response is the rich young man. The Lord Jesus Christ personally called him – “come follow me” but he loved more his possessions and left sad. No further comment about this young man was made in the Bible. The love of money was above the love of God Read the slide

77 The call Paul – Positive response “So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:6 The Apostle Paul is an example of positive response “What do you want me to do?” was his response to the call. In the gospels we see his obedience and commitment to the calling made to him by The Lord Jesus Christ A commitment until death Read slide

78 Gideon – Positive response
The call Gideon – Positive response "Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” Judges 6:14 Another example of positive response. Despite his doubts, Gideon obeys and goes to comply with the call. The example also illustrates how when we respond in obedience to the call, we can be sure that The Lord will be with us Read slide

79 How long does our calling last?
The call A call requires answers… What was ours? How long does our calling last? What is our commitment? With these questions we offer the opportunity to exchange views from the participants and to enrich the contents with their contributions The answer to the individual call by all participants has been positive but it is important to clarify for how long is the call for, and what is the level of commitment Our call to serve is for the lifetime. We are not volunteers. We are servants of the most high God. Our commitment must be until we die. Our positive response to the call to the ministry implies obedience to our Lord performing our roll in excellence to honor and exalt him If we love God y obey him

80 The call: How long does it last?
«For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable» Romans 11:29 Share slide God's call is irrevocable according to Romans. (Here we can include a testimony of a call to TGI) We must commit ourselves and fulfill our promises If our answer is yes we should meet it in obedience Our actions must be consistent with our words

81 The call: What is our commitment?
"But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment" James 5:12b “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed” Ecclesiastes 5:4 Share slide God's call is irrevocable according to Romans. (Here we can include a testimony of a call to TGI) We must commit ourselves and fulfill our promises If our answer is yes we should meet it in obedience Our actions must be consistent with our words

82 He who has ears to hear… Matthew 13:43
The call He who has ears to hear… Matthew 13:43 We must interiorize what we have heard It should not just stay as words but produce fruit for the glory of God.

83 The call - Workshop for reflection
What did God show us in this module? Team work Prayer: 1 minute Preparation: 3 minutes Presentation: 2 minutes The objective here is: to allow some time to meditate in prayer to assimilate what the Holy Spirit has revealed in this module and to exchange views with the group Comments must be limited to the contents of the module and should not deviate discussion Depending on the number of participants, small workteams are conformed and time permitting, a representative of each team will share their views with the entire group.

84 The Ministry The call The power
Fundamentos I The Ministry The call The power Next we will study how we have been equipped to fulfill with the call our Lord has made to us

85 Power is a legal term which involves Right Authority – Power Duty
The power Power is a legal term which involves Right Authority – Power Duty Our Lord Jesus Christ explains in The Word that we have been equipped to fulfill the call. The Lord has given us POWER Read slide We have received: A right + Authority-Power+ Duty We can not choose what we like, the equipment is complete.

86 The power A right Because whoever has it can exercise it with certain persons to undertake certain duties Legally it entitles him/her to do certain things Read slide In this world the Law gives us the right to do certain things. In the spiritual world the Lord Jesus Christ has empowered us to do certain things as well.

87 Because whoever holds it can usually make use of force to exercise it
The power Authority – Power Because whoever holds it can usually make use of force to exercise it It is therefore usually attributed to "any authority" Read slide In the material world authority comes with power to enforce orders. Power or force are used if necessary In the spiritual world we have received authority and power to fulfill our call The demons recognize the authority and power of the believer

88 The power Duty: Because the person who holds it is obligated to exercise it, and cannot object Read slide In the material world, the power includes the obligation to exercise authority, and if necessary use force e.g. the power a father has over his children. Parents have the right over their children to exercise authority and power but also have the obligation to protect and educate them, respecting and having them be respected over their rights (the children’s) We will see next how the power works in the spiritual world.

89 A right Authority – Power Duty
The power Within a spiritual context, POWER also incorporates: A right Authority – Power Duty Share slide Power is more than authority. It includes the right we have in the spiritual world to be sons of God. Demons recognize us as sons of God. We can exercise Authority - Power in the spiritual world as we fulfill our mandate within our roll But we have the obligation (duty) to exercise our right and authority to reach the world with the gospel Since we are citizens of the Kingdom of God we have the duty to expand the Kingdom The power is the equipment all Christians receive to fulfill the mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ to take the Gospel to the end of the world The Lord has endowed us with everything we need to succeed and fulfill his purpose Remember we are taking about a confrontation in the spiritual world and we can only succeed if we have received the power that comes from our Lord.

90 Our power comes from GOD
The power Our power comes from GOD God saved and called us with a holly calling to testify of our Lord Jesus Christ Our Lord Jesus Christ has giving us from what HE received from The Father – the almighty! Our power comes from God

91 to them He gave the right to become children of God,
The power “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” John 1:12 Share slide We are children of God reconciled with the father trough the redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ When we became God’s son we received the power in the spirtual world

92 The power “Behold, I give yo the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” Luke 10:19 Share slide We see in this verse the power as a condition to fight the enemy. The power is the equipment of the Christian to succeed fighting the spiritual forces of evil.

93 The power: A parallel A President A believer A right Authority - Power
Popular election Authority - Power Presidential sash Duty Constitution and Law A right Born again John 1:12 Authority - Power Holy Spirit Acts 1:8a Duty Witnessing Acts 1:8b We will study a parallel analysis of the concept of power between a Country President and a Christian The right: The right to be recognized a country president is obtained by popular election when he wins over the opponents. The right to be recognized a son of God is obtained when he is born again through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. By receiving Christ as savior, they receive the right to become children of God. Authority and Power: When taking up office the President of the Republic receives the presidential sash as emblem or symbol of his authority and power. The power to be the highest authority of the military forces. The believer receives the Holy Spirit in Acts 1: 8 . The Lord told the disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Duty: When the president is appointed, he is required to enforce the constitution and laws of the country; it is not if he wants to do it, it is his obligation for which he is responsible. The believer has an obligation to exercise his right, authority and power to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, it is not if he wants do do it, it is his obligation and so will have to respond. Note: Make these comments as you go trough the slide

94 We have the obligation to reach the world for Jesus Christ
The power We have the obligation to reach the world for Jesus Christ As children of God and citizens of the Kingdom of God, we have the obligation to expand it, and the way to do it, is taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.

95 The power “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel” I Corinthians 9:16 Share slide The apostle Paul reminds us of the obligation we have to evangelize; he expresses it by saying: "Woe to me if I preach not the gospel." This must be the feeling of every follower of Jesus Christ.

98 The Ministry The call The power The holiness
Foundations I The Ministry The call The power The holiness Share slide Then let's talk of holiness as an essential requirement in order to exercise our power in the spiritual world

99 “Because it is written, Be holy, for I am holy” I Peter 1:16
The holiness “Because it is written, Be holy, for I am holy” I Peter 1:16 Read the slide Holiness is a prerequisite for success in a ministry 100% spiritual. Our confrontation is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in high places. Our enemy is spiritual. It does not like what we do and the only way to overcome it is to live in holiness.

100 The holiness “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” Ephesians 4:12-13 The Lord Jesus Christ has created ministries to perfect the saints so that they in turn serve in building up the Body of Christ. TGI as an evangelistic ministry must practice their spiritual goals, living in holiness, allowing the Lord to perfect us and thus be effective in building up the Body of Christ. Read the slide. The apostle makes it clear that God wants us to live in holiness to reach unity of the and knowledge of Christ, that we grow in the way of perfection, giving the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. Holiness is a requirement to participate in building the body of Christ.

104 The holiness – Men and women of prayer
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints;” Ephesians 6:18 “Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6 Read slide

We are men and women of faith. We believe God and obey Him.

106 The holiness – Men and women of separated walk (1)
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said, I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore ‘Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” II Corinthians 6:14-18 Share slide

107 The holiness – Men and women of separated walk (2)
“Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple” Romans 16:17,18 Share slide

108 The holiness - Men and women of separated walk (3)
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise” Ephesians 5:15 Read slide. We are men and women of right paths. Obediently we follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are compassionate men and women. We have compassion for souls that are lost and on their way to hell. We must pray that God will give us a compassionate heart, for if we have compassion for those who are lost, we will evangelize and help those who are in need. Click on the return arrow on the bottom right corner to return to the menu.

111 The holiness – Men and women who give (1)
“And not only as we hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.” “I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others.” “Therefore show to them, and before the churches the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.” II Corinthians 8:5,8,24 Read slide

112 The holiness – Men and women who give (2)
“Yours O, Lord, is the greatness, and the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name. But who am I , and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given you.” I Chronicles 29:11-14 Read slide

113 The holiness – Men and women who give (3)
“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” II Corinthians 9:7 Read the slide We are generous men and women. 116 Without holiness thre is no authorithy
Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits saying We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches Acts 19:13 Read slide In the Bible we read that seven sons of a man named Sceva, a Jewish chief priests tried to exorcise demons, but the demons did not recognize authority or spiritual power in them. We see that in the response from the demons.

117 Without holiness there is no authority
And the evil spirit answered and said “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” Acts 19:15 Read slide The sons of Sceva thought that since their father was the chief of the priests, they would have authority like the apostles, but they were wrong. The demons answered the way they did because there was no authority in the sons of Scevo Without holiness there is no fruit.

118 Without holiness there is no fruit
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5 Read slide Read slide. Sin separates us from our Lord. Apart from Him we can do nothing. We can not bear fruit and the fruit are souls. We can measure our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ by the fruit we produce.

120 The Ministry The call The power The holiness The work
Foundations I The Ministry The call The power The holiness The work Having been called to be part of the ministry Having being called to be light in the world, Having been equipped Living in holiness, We will now see how to do the work the Lord has called us to do.

121 To evangelize and become a multiplier of evangelists
The work To evangelize and become a multiplier of evangelists “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19 Read the slide The Ministry of The Gideons International does the job of evangelization spreading the word around the world and being a facilitator or multiplier through the churches.

122 3. Distribution and Placement of Scriptures
The work – Three ways Personal Testimony Personal evangelism 3. Distribution and Placement of Scriptures The Gideons International do the work of evangelism in three ways: The first is through our personal testimony The second is through personal evangelism one by one. All members of the Association have been called by our Lord Jesus Christ to evangelize in our environment, reaching the nonbelievers in our daily activities. The third way is through distributions and placements of Scriptures in certain areas. Click on the text of the item you want to develop

123 The work - 1. Personal testimony
Committed with the sense of excellence, we share our faith in Jesus Christ every place trough our personal behavior Read the slide. To be worthy ambassadors of Christ we need to live in holiness. That is the true commitment to excellence, that way, we can testify with our behavior. We will attract people to Christianity by our behavior without words. Click on the return arrow in the bottom right to return to the previous menu

124 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
It is to share our faith in Jesus Christ person to person, using a New Testament (PWT) (small blue 7761) In personal evangelism we present the gospel to non-believers by giving them a New Testament (7761). We accompany them as far as possible in its decision to receive Our Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior leaving in them the certainty of eternal life. Additionally we recommend to congregate in a Church of sound doctrine. The decison of the non-believer is personal and we should not feel responsible for what he decides. Our duty is to present the Gospel

125 The work - 2. Personal evangelism - Guidelines
Always use the PWT Small blue (7761) The Gideon or Auxiliary must give an offering for each NT used as PWT, according to his/her possibilities The NT must be given to non-believers only Under no circumstances are members allowed to provide PWT’s to churches, pastors, missionaries, or other persons Read the slide The Gedeon and the Auxiliary give an offering for each NT. Do not buy it. It is still owned by the Ministry therefore its distribution should meet the standards of the Ministry.

126 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
The impact - Qualitatively Fulfilling the Great Commission “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19 Read slide. When we evangelize we are fulfilling the great commission assigned to the body of Christ. We participate also helping to disciple in evangelism in Churches

127 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
The impact - Qualitatively Reconciling the word “…that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” II Corinthians 5:19-20 Read slide. We are ambassadors of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are being reconciliation instruments. We grow spiritually to bear fruit.

128 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
To be expanded during FOUNDATIONS II “Share Jesus without fear” A workshop Read slide. In Foundations II we will develop in more detail personal evangelism, introducing a methodology to present the gospel in a conversational way.

129 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
The impact - Quantitatively (A challenge: one a day!) 300,000 x 1 x 365 = 109,500,000 NT 109,500,000 x USD1= USD109,500,000 Here are some figures on the potential impact of personal evangelism: If each Gideon and Auxiliary were to distribute one NT per day as part of personal evangelism, it would add up to million NTs. Excluding other distributions and placements. Vision 2020/ Objective 100, aims distributions of 120 million a year. If we accept the challenge of one each day in personal evangelism, we would reach the target easily. Additionally we would be collecting US $ for the Scriptures Fund

130 The work - 2. Personal evangelism
produces fruit “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples” John 15:8 Read slide When we do personal evangelism we produce fruit, the Father is glorified, and we are true disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.

131 The work – 3. Distribution and Placement
- Distributions - Placements - Policies and procedures - Workshop Gideons and Auxiliary make distributions and placements of Scriptures in approved areas. Let's define the concepts of distribution and placement Additionally we will present the policies and procedures approved to do the work decently and in order. Click on the subject to present

132 The work - Distribution
To give (for free) a New Testament person to person, inside or outside an Institution A distribution is to deliver into the hands of one person a NT. When we give the NT we are transferring its ownership. We can make distributions inside and / or outside the approved institutions.

133 The work - Distribution
Example: NT distributions in schools CHANGE PHOTO

134 The work - Distribution by Gideons
Schools Small blue (7761) One per student 10 years old and older Annual visits to open-door schools Every two years when distributions are on sidewalk Let’s see areas of distribution and who is involved: We will start with distributions by the Gideons: Read the slide: 1. Schools: Note: When schools are visited every year, we should not give to all students. We are delivering to students from 5th grade up. Then on the first visit we give them scriptures to grade 5 upwards, for the second visit we deliver only the 5th graders and new students. The idea is to deliver the NT to all students who have not received one and are more than 10 years of age.

135 The work - Distribution by Auxiliaries
Schools Small blue (7761) Auxiliary may participate in co-ed schools and universities if necessary to maintain open doors Always led by a Gideon who addresses the students Most participants must be Gideons Read slide See Manual 907S

136 The work - Distribution by Gideons
2. Universities Small blue (7761) One per student Bilinguals may be distributed Should be visited every year Read slide. Distributions can be performed within the premises in which case NTs can be delivered to teachers and officials If conducted on sidewalks distribution is only for students

137 The work - Distribution by Gideons
3. Military, Fire Departments, and Police Small camouflaged (7771) Small blue (7761) One to each member May be given to military chaplains Visit at least once a year Read slide We deliver the NT "camouflaged" (7771). If not available the small blue (7761) is used. In case no direct delivery is possible you can coordinate a distribution with the chaplain of the institution. If you are requested to pray you can do so individually or in groups

138 The work - Distribution by Gideons
4. Male Jails and Prisons Small blue (7761) One per inmate Yes to employees No to visitors May be given to Chaplain (last resource) Gideons may preach Read slide We do not deliver NTs to visitors. It is the only area of distribution where we can preach as Gideons. In case we can not get inside to make the distribution we can coordinate it with the Chaplain of the Institution

139 The work - Distribution by Gideons
5. Refugee camps Small blue (7761) Displaced groups within or outside their countries Concentrated in areas receiving human help One NT per person Read slide Refugee camps are part of the Disaster Areas. For these distributions prior authorization from the Regional Director is required

140 The work - Distribution by Gideons
6. Fairs and Cultural Events Small blue (7761) A Camp or Camps may have a stand at Annual Fairs and/or events to distribute NTs to students and Personal Evangelism These events cannot be sponsored by Churches or other ministries Read slide In general this type of distribution does not apply to countries of International Reach since it implies that Gideons can not make distributions in educational institutions, which is not the case in almost all countries of international reach.

141 The work - Distribution by Gideons
7. Special Events Small blue (7761) They are one time events (Olympics/World Cup) approved by Regional Director to do Personal Evangelism. Policies and procedures of Personal Evangelism should be followed. Auxiliary and widows may participate Read slide As in the previous slide this type of distribution does not apply in most countries of international reach.

142 The work - Distribution by Auxiliaries
1. Hospitals White (7741) One NT per worker Only the white NT Read slide It is very important to prevent the doors from closing, these distributions in order to respect the rules of institutions and especially when doctors are now working. We should not stop doctors when they are with their patients. We expect them to complete the distribution. Gideon should not enter areas Motherhood. These should be covered by the Auxiliary. In areas of emergency and intensive care should be the utmost restraint to avoid interference with medical work. Recall that we have prior authorization from the management of an institution, wherever possible in writing and keep them updated. Which involves developing an ongoing relationship with the directors of the institution and this is a continuous duty. When patients ask for prayer, we must first finish the distribution and placement of scriptures and having finished, in an organized rway go to pray for the pacient (s). We should not do it in groups. Under no circumstances a distribution can become a hall of meetings and prayer. The frequency of distributions should be defined according to the needs, in order to avoid the accumulation of Scriptures, often lost, and we have seen cases where they are thrown away.

143 The work - Distribution by Auxiliaries
2. Nursing Schools and Medical Conventions White (7741) One per student One per nurse participating at Conventions read slide The auxiliary participate in distributions in hospitals and clinics in the company of the Gideons. Maternity wards should covered by The Auxiliary and they may participate in Nurses Conventions using a " display stand" for distributions

144 The work - Distribution by Auxiliaries
3. Female Jails and Prisons Small blue (7761) One per female inmate Yes to employees Not to visitors May be given to Chaplain (last resource) They can preach Read slide Apply the same rules that apply to the Gideons

145 The work - Distribution by Auxiliaries
4. Domestic Violence Shelters and Crisis Pregnancy Centers Small blue (7761) One per person Read slide Auxiliary must be accompanied by Gideons when distributions in shelters for those affected by violence are made. Gideons participation is not required in critical pregnancy centers

146 It is to place Scriptures on specific surfaces
The work - Placements It is to place Scriptures on specific surfaces Read slide By placing the scriptures we are not delivering directly into the hands of a receiver. We do not use the small NT. When we place a NT we are not transferring the ownership to the institution, it remains the property of The Gideons International. When a person within the institution takes the NT, from that moment on, it belongs to him/her

147 The work - Placements Example of placing Scriptures in a Hotel room
CHANGE PHOTO

148 The work - Placements by Gideons
1. Hotels, Motels, Military day rooms, Transient Efficiency Apts., Cruise Ships, Freighters,Passenger Trains, Sleeping quarters in off-shore Oil Rigs With international tourists: Blue bilingual/multilingual (7736) Without international tourists: Big Blue (7731) One per room Visit twice each year Replace deteriorated scriptures (may be placed in penal institutions or be donated) read slide It is important to develop a relationship with management and / or person in charge of the rooms for the placement and maintenance of NT in the rooms.

149 The work - Placements by Gideons
2. Attorney’s/Solicitor’s Offices Big blue (7731) One per wating room Not to give to clients Read slide The NT should be placed on the tables of the reception areas. Do not place more than one NT on each table in the waiting room.

150 The work - Placements by Gideons
3. Funeral Homes Big blue (7731) One per viewing room Not to individuals Read slide. It is Important to develop ongoing relationship with the Administrator or designee. We should be very respectful of the mourners. If you are requested to pray do so after finishing placement. A Gideon, maximum two. Do not preach

151 The work - Placements by Gideons
4. Trains and Ships (Country/city) Big Blue Bilingual/Multilingual (7736) One per cabin Read slide These placements should be made in the cities where the fleet of transportation has its main base. The means of transport must have bunk beds or rooms where the NTs can be placed..

152 The work - Placements by Gideons
5. Airplanes (Country/City) Big blue Bilingual/Multilingual (7736) One per airplane Read slide It should be placed on the magazine stand

153 The work - Placements by Gideons
6. Hospitals and Nursing Homes Big Blue with Psalms (7731) One per nightstand The Auxiliares may participate always with a Gideon May be given to Chaplain Read slide It is recommended that the auxiliary do the placements in the maternity wards. If it is not possible, the action must be coordinated with the Chaplain. Any exception to the rule of placements must be previously approved by Headquarters. E.g. Hospitals where it is not permitted to go into the rooms. Some hospitals request multi-lingual NTs

154 The work - Placements by The Auxiliaries
Medical, Dental and Veterinarian Offices Big Blue (7731) One per waiting room on a table One small blue New Testament to staff members Read slide

155 The work - Placements by The Auxiliaries
3. Rooms of Women’s Domestic Violence Shelters and Crisis pregnancy Centers Big Blue (7731) One per waiting room on a table One small blue New Testament to staff members Read slide If prayer is requested it must be done after finishing the distribution

156 Policies & Procedures The work
The ministry of Gideons International is known for being disciplined and focused on God's purpose. Therefore it is required that all Gideons and Auxiliary meet the ministry's policies and procedures, thereby avoiding confusion and chaos in the ministry.

157 The work - Policies and Procedures
Do not affiliate with other organizations Do not participate in Programs of other organizations Performed solely by Gideons and Auxiliaries Scriptures are not supplied to other Christian groups or individuals On exception may be given to Chaplains at Military, Prison and Hospitals (if necessary) Read slide These policies help us to fulfill what is promised to the churches when they are told that all funds raised are for printing and distribution of the Scriptures in approved areas, and that such distributions and placements are undertaken only by Gideons and Auxiliary. We must guarantee to churches who give to the ministry that the scriptures are printed with the resources they have donated, not to be delivered to other churches but they are used by the Gideons to bring the Word of God to non believers.

158 The work - Policies and Procedures
Scriptures are not to be sold We do not distribute any other type of materials Read slide. The Gideons do not sell the Scriptures. It is important to clarify that when we do Personal Evangelism we are not buying NTS, we are offering. The NTs belong to the Gideons International until they are given to a person, at that time, the property is transferred to the receiver. To keep the identity of the ministry, we must not give other materials when we are performing activities of The Gideons International.

159 The work - Policies and Procedure
Do not apply pressure Do not discuss Do not do proselitism Read slide. We must be very careful in our activities to ensure that doors are not closed to the ministry for lack of delicacy and respect. Proselytizing and going into theological discussions is not part of our ministry

160 The work - Politicies and Procedures
Do not share testimonies Do not preach Do not pray Do not ask for prayer Read slide. It is important to note that when it comes to prayer, we do not pray for people who are in institutions as part of our job of placement and distribution. If someone, for example in a hospital, asks for prayer, we must finish first the distribution and then, return to pray individually with the person. As recommended in the Word "decently and in order."

161 The work Memo: The Trainer, as part of his role, participates in Distributions and Placements of Scriptures Read slide. Trainer participation should include the practice in the field as part of training. We should not think that training was done when we finished with the theory. Training includes support in the various activities to ensure they are being conducted according to the rules and procedures of the Ministry.

162 The work Memo: Everything we do in the Ministry must contribute to win souls for Christ Read slide Independently of the role the Lord has called us to play, it is important to emphasize, that everything we do in the Ministry of TGI, must contribute to win souls for the Kingdom of Heaven which in turn, is the purpose of God. This is not a strategy, it is a command and is what demands that we must perform in excellence our role as Gideons and Auxiliary.

163 The work: Hotels - Questions
How many distributions per Hotel are allowed each year? Read slide In Hotels we do not distribute just place Scriptures

164 The work Hospitals and Clinics - Questions
Auxiliaries place, distribute or both? Read slide It depends on the area: We distribute to officials and place in areas of maternity and gynecology, where it is not desirable that Gideons go.

165 The work Schools and Universities - Questions
Do we place New Testaments on sidewalk distributions? Read slide On sidewalks only distributions are made

166 The work Jails - Questions
Can The Auxiliary go through the Plan of Salvation with the inmate? Read slide Yes, but only in women's prisons

167 The work Military and Police - Questions
Placements are always one by one in this area? No. Here only distributions are made

168 The work “… The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise” Proverbs 11:30 read slide All the work done by The Gideons International produces a single fruit that is rescued souls for the Kingdom of God. Gideons and Auxiliary are wise: "Soul winners"

169 The work – Workshop of reflection
What did God show us in this module? Team work Pray: 1 minute Preparation by team: 3 minutes Presentation: 2 minutes The objective here is to allow time for reflection and prayer to assimilate what the Holy Spirit has revealed to each participant in the module, and to exchange views with the group

170 Possible “practical test”
The work – Workshop Role-play (All areas) Team work Prayer : 1 minute Preparation: 5 minutes Simulation: 10 minutes Possible “practical test” The objective here is to practice how to make distributions and placements in the different forms we have within the Ministry. To illustrate with examples of hospitals, schools, universities, prisons, hotels The simulation should be from the initial contact to the institution all the way to implementation and monitoring.

171 The Ministry The call The power The holiness The work The Camp
Foundations I The Ministry The call The power The holiness The work The Camp

172 It covers a specific geographical area
The Camp - What is it? Basic operating unit through which individual members can most effectively serve It covers a specific geographical area It is conformed by a minimum of 6 members Read slide It is the most important component of the Ministry because it is where the work is done. The Ministry is structured to support the camp. The Ministry operates with more than 11,000 camps in the world

173 The Camp – It’s function
Camp members have the responsibility of executing the evangelization work dictated by The Ministry within its designated geographical area Read slide The execution requires to do everything decently and in order in each of the approved areas for distribution and / or placement of Scriptures

174 The Camp - Organization
Managed by a Cabinet conformed by: President Vice-president Chaplain Secretary Treasurer Read slide This is the conformation of the camp directors Five members elected in prayer by Camp members. They direct all operational and spiritual aspects of the Camp

175 The Camp Functions and responsibilities of the Camp’s Cabinet Formulates the Camp’s Strategic Plan and controls and measures its fulfillment It is responsible for the implementation of the Programs of the Ministry in the Camp Read slide The Cabinet is the highest authority in the camp. It is committed to serve our Lord in excellence. The cabinet must be aware of the strategy mostly used by the enemy against the good development of the Ministry which is the division between the Camp brother,s and be in alert to combat it.

176 It makes sure the Camp meets the Ministry’s Policies and Procedures
Functions and responsibilities of the Camp’s Cabinet It makes sure the Camp meets the Ministry’s Policies and Procedures It applies the Disciplinary Manual should the need arises Read slide The Ministry of TGI has remained for more than 115 years for being a disciplined Ministry, which oversees compliance with its policies and standards. Therefore we should not hesitate when it is necessary to take corrective action We must always protect the good name of the Ministry. Our discipline principles contained in the Manual are based on the word of God.

180 The strategies of the enemy
To obstruct the Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ Read slide It is important to understand that the enemy does not like what we are doing and it has strategies to create obstacles for us to do our work. As an example we will illustrate the strategies the enemy used to block the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ and what he uses to hinder our ministry But TGI also have global and local strategies to achieve the vision that God has given this Ministry

181 Of the enemy Of The Gideons International
The strategies Of the enemy Of The Gideons International

182 The strategies of the enemy
Temptations Division/jealousy/strifes Occupations Fear Read slide. We live in permanent spiritual warfare in which the malignant despite knowing that it has been defeated, tries to hinder the work of the body of Christ. So, initially his strategies are to block the work of the ministry through sin. And if unsuccessful, seeks to keep the believer busy, doing good things, but not what the Lord is calling him to do or placing on him a spirit of fear

183 The strategies of the enemy Temptations
Read Luke: 4:1-12 Basic needs Greed Idolatry Challenge to God Disbelief “Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. v4:13 Read slide. Read Luke 4: 1-12. What was Jesus' reaction? How did the encounter end? Study context. First the enemy tried to obstruct / destroy the ministry of Jesus Christ through temptations. Not being successful he pulled away for a while, showing that the enemy does not give up, he is persistent and we must be alert to defend us against his attacks.

184 The Strategies of the enemy Division/jealousy/strifes
“ What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, I Corinthians 1:12-14 Read slide A favorite strategy of the enemy is to create divisions in the Church because in this way people and entire ministries are destroyed The Lord shows us the importance of unity in the body of Christ in Luke 11:17 the Lord says: "... and a house divided against itself falls" (Read the entire verse) Study context Many times we see that these divisions are generated by jealousy between brothers and / or ministers of the Lord As the body of Christ we must not allow divisions to thrive in camps, or in the Church.

185 The Strategies of the enemy Division/jealousy/strifes
“for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?” I Corinthians 3:3 Read slide The apostle Paul gives us another example of the problems in the Corinthian church where jealousy, strife and dissension were causing problems in the church that prevented spiritual growth. Study context The president and chaplain of the camp have the obligation to identify brothers who cause divisions and strife and to take corrective actions. They should not be permissive and must act quickly following the discipline handbook.

186 The strategies of the enemy Division/jealousy/strifes
“he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions” I Timothy 6:4 Read the slide The apostle Paul warns us to avoid all sorts of vain discussions that lead to nothing good. We should not be contentious. We must be vigilant to identify when the enemy is taking us subtly to contend against our brothers. Study context

187 The strategies of the enemy Occupations
“Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God!” Luke 4:33-34 Read slide. When the enemy could not destroy the ministry of Jesus Christ through temptations, he tried to make him famous keeping him busy to prevent him from fulfilling his ministry, as we shall see in the following verses. The demons recognized our Lord, "I know who you are, the Holy One of God", they declared themselves to give fame to Our Lord.

188 The strategies of the enemy Occupations
“But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him” Luke 4:35 Read slide The Lord Jesus Christ ordered them to shut up because he did not want to be famous, That would bring other occupations that would keep him busy and hinder the fulfillment of His ministry.

189 The strategies of the enemy Occupations
And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region. Luke 4:37 Read slide In this verse we see how the Lord's fame grew and in the next verse the consequences of his growing fame

190 The strategies of the enemy Occupations
“Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them” Luke 4:42 Read slide The people, the crowds sought him and stopped him so that he would not depart from them. It is understandable that they would hold to the Lord, we would have done the same. We would have liked him to stay with us permanently, but that desire precluded the Lord from continue taking the Gospel to other places. The crowd unintentionally hindered the development of the Ministry of our Lord. This was a strategy of the enemy, so the Lord commanded the demon to keep in silence.

191 The strategies of the enemy Fearr
“And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Philippians 1:14 Read slide This is one of the most common strategies of the enemy when it comes to evangelism. Fear paralyzes. We see brothers who are unable to share the Gospel by unfounded fears in most cases. In this verse note that this strategy of the enemy is not new, he was using it from the early Church and continues to use it today. Remember what the apostle tells us in 1 John 4:18. "In love there is no fear, but perfect love casts out fear; because fear involves torment. The one who fears has not been made perfect in love" We must overcome this enemy's strategy recognizing the love of God in our lives. We should not fear a defeated enemy if we remain in the love of God.

192 The strategies of the enemy
“but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent” Luke 4:43 Read slide. The Lord reminds his followers of his ministry: he should continue preaching the kingdom of God, for this he was sent. He could not allow occupations such as miracles and healings preventing him to develop his ministry. Many of us sometimes lose sight and focus of our call to be busy doing good things but not what the Lord has called us to do. This is a very subtle strategy of the enemy

193 The strategies of the enemy to separate Job from God
Possessions Family Health Read slide. In the book of Job we see strategies the enemy could use to hinder our ministry He attacks our goods and possessions, family and health Explain the case of Job

194 Strategies of the enemy to separate Job from God
“And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before”. Job 42:10 Read slide To the glory of God we know that victory is guaranteed, that nothing happens in our lives that is not under the control of God, that not a hair can be touched without our God allowing it. At the end we can say that everything that happens in our lives is for the better. It is under God's purpose, meets an end, has a "what for". If we remain faithful to our calling, if we believe in God, the Lord assures us victory, we will be blessed, we are useful tools to reach others with the gospel. We should see our afflictions from the point of view of God and not the devil. From the perspective of God everything that happens in our lives is for good even though we can not understand. We must not allow these strategies of the enemy take us away from our ministry. Our call is for life.

200 The local strategies Of The Gideons International
Locally (at Camp level) We also have local strategies in the camps. These are formulated according to the specific needs. The environment in which they operate is different and in many cases require to formulate specific strategies to meet the objectives that have such camps. The trainer should help the camps in the formulation of strategies, action plans, additionally must give appropriate support during the implementation and follow-up to the programs to prevent dilution over time due to lack of proper monitoring .

201 Goals defined by IOC for the International Program
Planning Goals defined by IOC for the International Program Read slide The Trainer must present to the camp the goals set by the CAI for the fiscal year that are included in the International Program document and should pose a challenge for these goals to be achieved and possibly exceeded. Usually the goals set locally are higher than those established by the CAI. It is very important to use properly the T-04 format.
