3 Peripheral Nervous System
Transmits messages between central nervous system and the whole body. 2 Main Divisions: Autonomic Nervous System Somatic Nervous System

4 Somatic Nervous System
Transmits sensory messages from voluntary muscles & sense organs to CNS. Activated by touch, pain, changes in temperature, and changes in body position. Experience Hot & Cold, Pain & Pressure Maintain posture and balance when you move positions. (controlled reaction)

5 Autonomic Nervous System
Occurring involuntarily Heartbeat, breathing, digestion, and blood pressure. Unconscious, but essential to keeping us alive. Important when experiencing stress 2 Divisions: sympathetic and the parasympathetic.

6 Sympathetic “Fight or Flight” = Stress DazShYw Increase: BP, heart rate, breathing, muscle contraction. Ready for action

7 Parasympathetic “Rest and Digest” = Peace Recovery Period
System back to normal
