1 Environmental technologies (ET)
Module S14 Component D S14-D1 Management of ET

2 S14 Module – Environmental Technologies (ET)
Component A- Environmental management in companies Component B- Eco-innovation Component C- Types of ET Component D- Management of ET Election of ET Assessment methodologies Inplementation and monitoring Information sources 2

3 ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES
Componente D MANAGEMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES Election of ET

4 Election of ET Very important choice: Difficult task
ET not entailing excessive costs (economic viability BATNEEC) An inadequate ET can affect business productivity Effect on the overall competitiveness of the company Difficult task Wide range of available technologies Requires advanced knowledge Too much data to analyze: Consumption Emissions: air, water, waste Environmental Risk Economic costs Low availability of information about ET characterization Assessment methodologies with advantages / disadvantages

5 Example of economic analysis

6 ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES Assessment methodologies
Component D MANAGEMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES Assessment methodologies 6

7 ET assessment Assessment methodologies:
Life Cycle Analysis (not available data) Multicriteria decision making techniques: MDMT simple: single hierarchy, technical merit, symbolic logic MDMT complex: AHP, ANP, ELECTRE, TOPSIS, PRES, opportunity, cost assessment Advantages of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process): Useful for economic and other factors Validated by numerous examples published Intuitive, based on comparisons of pairs of elements Combines opinion of a multidisciplinary team Quick and objective results Input data: ET to assess / choose Evaluation criteria Supporting software: Superdecisions

8 ET assessment by AHP Possible criteria:
AHP scale for comparison of pairs 1 Equally important 3 Moderate importance of one over the other 5 Strong or demonstrated 7 Very strong or demonstrated importance 9 Extreme importance 2, 4, 6, 8 Intermediate values Possible criteria: Investment costs, maintenance costs, effects on water, on air, on public health, enterprise competitiveness, difficulty in handling, energy efficiency, resource consumption ...

9 Exercise S14-D2 ET assessment by AHP
2 technologies will be compared using the methodology AHP environmental, filling the attached tables, and using the scale of AHP values. Assessment criteria matrix : the criteria are compared in pairs 2) Matrix of priorities will be matched according to each criterion 3) Final matrix: individual judgments will be geometrically averaged and the excel sheet will be filled out
