Objective: Describe how the Revolutionary War ended. Agenda: Prayer Do Now: Share your diary entries with your partners Discuss last night’s homework Notes on Chapter 4.4 Work on page 139 # 2A - Write an A+ answer or draw a picture.

3 Key Terms and People Francis Marion – Patriot fighter who was really good at guerilla warfare. Organized a brigade that interrupted British communication and supplies through the use of surprise attacks. Comte de Rochambeau – French military soldier who helped the Continental Army trap and defeat the British army at the Battle of Yorktown, leading to the end of the war. Battle of Yorktown – last major battle of the American Revolution. British surrendered because they were surrounded on land and ocean. Treaty of Paris – the peace treaty that officially ended the American Revolutionary war. Great Britain recognized the United States as an independent country.

4 Independence! The British were not winning enough in the Northeast.
They decided to go South: There were more Loyalists there and they hoped that to free slaves and enlist them into the British army. This resulted in brutal fighting in the South. There were many more battles than in the East. Patriots a lot of battles: Georgia and South Carolina Guerilla Warfare: The Patriots changed their battle tactics to hit and run tactics. This frustrated British forces and made it hard to fight and capture Patriot forces.

5 Battle of Yorktown – End of the Revolution
The Continental Army faces of against the British led by Charles Cornwallis in Yorktown, Virginia. Washington trapped Cornwallis on land with the help of Comte de Rochambeu’s 4,000 French soldiers. The French Navy blocked Cornwallis escape route by sea. October 19, Cornwallis was forced to surrender after weeks of fighting.

6 The Treaty of Paris Britain had no money for more soldiers. It entered peace talks with the Americans. Benjamin Franklin helped create the peace agreement. It took two years. Results of the Treaty: Great Britain recognized the independence of the United States. America’s borders were created. (but not to what it is today)
