1 What are we learning today?
That taking drugs is a risk to health and well being. That drugs can be categorised into 3 types. The effects, risks to health and legal status of 12 drugs.

2 By the end of the lesson I Must.
Explain the 3 categories of drug types. Be able to explain the difference between drug use and misuse Name 3 legal drugs, 5 illegal drugs and 2 medicinal drugs. Be able to explain and describe the effects, the risks to health and the legal status of 5 drugs. I should Be able to explain and describe the effects, risks and legal status of more drugs. I could Be able to explain and describe the effects, risks and legal status of all 12 drugs researched.

3 Definition of drugs. The term 'drug' means any substance that is 'psychoactive', which means 'mind-altering'. There are three types of drugs. Legal drugs (eg. alcohol, tobacco, Solvants, painkillers) Usually bought over the counter, in shops, supermarkets, or from chemists. Illegal drugs (eg. cannabis, Ecstasy, Cocaine) They are controlled drugs. They are often the type that lead to addiction or have dangerous side effects. Some times referred to as recreational drugs, as people take them for fun. Medicinal drugs. (eg. Steriods, tranquilizers, methadone)

4 Drug use is drug taking through which harm may occur, although such harm may not be immediately noticeable. Treatment is through education, advice, prevention work. Drug misuse is when drug taking harms health or a persons ability to function. Someone who misuses drugs may be dependent on the drug. To treat the person would require medical help. Any use of drugs can cause harm or even death.
